My internet connection at home is toasted, and I have no idea why. When I open either browser, only the standard “error” page comes up saying page cannot be found. I cannot get onto AOL messenger, or MSN, and the weather component won’t connect. The computer behaves as though it doesn’t have internet. However, when I type in ipconfig in the cmd prompt, my proper settings up: ip address, subnet mask, and default gateway. Just as though nothing was wrong. I also get a reply from sites when I ping them. And the internet light is on on the modem. The pinging and internet light demonstrate that my intnernet works…but for some reason, I cannot use it with a browser or anything like that. I tried to repair the connection, and I also tried to restart the DHCP Client under “computer management > services.” Nothing works. Any ideas why I can ping, still have internet, but the comp acts as though I don’t have internet? :bang:
Be a damn shame to have to reformat over this. Can't back up 160 gigs, so I'd have to just get a new hard drive for the install. |

This happened to my friend once.
Cox cut his bandwidth down to only what he needed to see their "Your service has expired, to reactivate, do this, you have so many days reactivate."
That's just one possibility |

| It's usually a problem with their server.I get slow downs like that occasionally that give me intermittent connections though it shows me as connected the whole time.Their servers are probably overloaded at the moment and will clear up in a bit. |

Ahh, I will try this tonight. I remember doing this in the past, but I did not remember exactly what I was supposed to type in until now. |

Yeah dude, it s*cks. No internet at home at all. Thankfully, I have internet at work, othwise they probably would have found me hung witha bedsheet in my closet!
So anyone else have an idea why a modem would work, why I can ping sites and get replies, and sometimes, open my search page, but other than that, get no page to come up other than the "error" page, and no other service be able to go online as well? How can your internet technically work, but you not be able to use it? |

| Maybe you should call a tech from your ISP out to your house to see what the problem is. |

Perhaps I will. I can't take much more of this "no internet at home" thing. |

| COuld be the modem itself has gone bad. THe light does not necessarily mean that its working correctly. My GF's Dad had that problem. I put in a new modem for him and boom he was fine....of course, that solution only really works if you have a room brimming with outdated PC parts! If not then just call your ISP and raise hell they will do what they can and if nothing helps then try the new modem solution. |

after you did the ipconfig "renew"....then do a ipconfig "all" and see if you are seeing a DNS server address...
sounds like a DNS problem somewhere |

AAAAAA hahahahaha!!! My internet is working again! I can go anywhere, and do anything online again! It's fixed!! I restearted the comptuer (for the 10th time or so just for this reason) and for some reason, the insight thing came up and did some damn thing or another. So anyway, *whew* have internet at home again.
I still don't know what the problem was...or when it will come back, or what to do it it happens again though. :? |

Thats awesome dude. I'm glad that terrible ordeal is over. I don't even want to think what would happen if I had to go without access for a week.
Horrible, horrible thoughts. *Shudders* |

Actually yes, I did do that at one point via another friends advice about a week ago, and Nothing. This time, I simply restarted like normal, I have no idea why it has started working again, but I don’t know if I can trust the connection ever completely again. |

another thing is to flush the dns cache...in conjunction with renew of the lease....always do this with cycling modem/router on/off too |
