Even though the whole event is in Canada, its good to know that someone down here actually does care.

And according to the article, the slaughter of 320,000 seals last season brought in $14.5 million. If she can get that ruthless, selfish seal slaughter to stop, the I will praise her for life.

Thoughts anyone? Please share.

Okay, the killing for food part I understand, people gotta eat. But killing for money is, to me, totally unacceptable. And killing for money is either a trait of a bounty hunter or a poacher.

I don't like the way they are killed. We harvest animals for meat, which is fine, but the goal most of the time is to do it as quickly as possible,as in a shot to the head or something.

You guys hear about that seal that has taken up feeding in a trout narrow passage to go around a dam. So basically all the trout just jump into his mouth. Just taking advantage of man made environmental protection systems.

I personally find the seal harvest each year totally un-necessary. Bla bla tradition... bla bla... Just like the rattlesnake round up in Texas each year.

Sorry, my ecological liberalism is showing. I'm fine with hunting - rule is you eat what you kill. I'm not big on the trophy hunting and mounting stuffed animals.

Want to raise seals in captivity and slaughter them - great. Same with rattlers... I've got no problem with that. The wholesale slaughter has an effect on our ecosystem and since it's not for survival, it's not necessary. Where these natives who use Seal for food and clothing - go to town.

Not seeing why this is still occuring in the 21st century.

because the method used to kill the seals in inhumane. They take large clubs and beat the seals to death.

That's not a seal. If I'm not mistaken, that's a sea lion. It is pretty funny. They can't run him off.

I agree, its just like any other form of hunting, regulated, necessary, and legal. Except for the fact that seals are soooooo cute and cutely and easily used as an anti-hunting poster child.

Would the anti-hunting extremists get more support if they used a rattle snake, or a cute and cuddly seal? Of course the seal gets more support. Not through facts, but through emotion, because they are soooooo cute and cuddly.

People have been doing that for hundreds of years, it's nothing new.

Why doesn't she just raise money to get the sealers to do something different? If they are only making $14.5 million on it, it seems the best thing to do would be to offer them $20 million to NOT kill seals.

I have no problem with killing for money. I hire killers to kill for me all the time, indirectly. If you eat meat out of a grocery store, you are paying people to kill for money. If you eat fish, unless they are fish you yourself caught, you are hiring people to kill for money. If you have a termite contract on your house, you are hiring people to kill for money.

The people at fault are those buying sealskins......

A good seal clubber does the same--they try for one hit kills. Also, shooting is allowed.

Despite the hunt, seal numbers are increasing. In fact, they raised the quota to 325,000 seals this year, from 320,000 last year. We've killed most of their predators, and we need to take their place.

I hope someone genetically engineers Seals to attack and kill human beings. That would be a worthy cause, as far as im concerned.

It's against the law to kill humans. It's not against the law to kill a limited number of seals. If you have problems with that, get your government to change the law.
