BioWare Corp. Announces Cancellation of Sequel to best-selling Roleplaying-Game Series

Development of Sequel to best-selling Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic series stopped

EDMONTON, Alberta, Canada, April 1, 2006

Canadian videogame developer BioWare Corp. has today announced the cancellation of one of its upcoming unannounced projects, an unnamed sequel to the best selling Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic series that was in production for both PC and the Xbox 360 Videogame System from Microsoft Corp. The game was previously on track for a Holiday 2006 release by publisher LucasArts EC.

“Believe me when I say that this decision didn’t come easy to anyone at BioWare,” said Ray Muzyka, co-founder and Joint CEO of BioWare. “But we took an honest look at all of our upcoming projects in the light of both our own focus on internally-developed IPs and our recent merger with Pandemic Studios, and found that there was simply no place for KotOR 3 in our overall strategy for BioWare’s future.”

“We deeply regret coming to this conclusion since we know that there is a huge interest among our community in another Knights of the Old Republic game from BioWare,” added Greg Zeschuck, co-founder and Joint CEO of BioWare. “But in the end, it all came down to what was best for our company as a whole.”

All members of the KotOR 3 team have been integrated into other development teams both in BioWare’s Edmonton Studio, as well as the newly-founded Austin, Texas Studio. BioWare has recently announced that its Austin Studio has already begun work on an unannounced Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game. The Austin team is being lead by BioWare’s Creative Director James Ohlen, who was previously the Lead Designer on Knights of the Old Republic 3.

Both BioWare Austin and BioWare Edmonton currently have job openings for programmers, designers, artists, animators, world builders and writers, with new jobs being posted regularly. Applicants may view job postings and submit materials through jobs.bioware.com.
