Apparently, God doesn't work like a snack machine so save your pennies. It also looks like depending on God to help you out just might keep you from helping yourself...
Power of prayer flunks an unusual test
Large study had Christians pray for heart-surgery patients
NEW YORK - In the largest study of its kind, researchers found that having people pray for heart bypass surgery patients had no effect on their recovery. In fact, patients who knew they were being prayed for had a slightly higher rate of complications.
Researchers emphasized that their work can't address whether God exists or answers prayers made on another's behalf. The study can only look for an effect from prayers offered as part of the research, they said.
They also said they had no explanation for the higher complication rate in patients who knew they were being prayed for, in comparison to patients who only knew it was possible prayers were being said for them.

Any Day....name a prayer that he answered for you....
My wife started cooking again yesterday. She'd been asking for take out for about three months and I was getting sick of it. So instead of jumping on her about it...I just pray that the Lord would put it upon her heart and within 2 days she just started cooking.
I think all go now and enjoy a home cooked meal. :-D
Why I waited three months to pray about it is the real mystery. |

It seems that God is a snack machine after all. I'll pray for some extra 20's tonight to see if He is also a cash machine... |

Only a retard would think this shows anything but a wide spread wish to attack something the sponsors and supporters of this "experiment" hate.
I smell desperation. |

You can't just pray for something to happen tomorrow and expect it to happen the exact way you plan on it. It doesn't work that way. Sometimes God answers prayers in ways that we didn't think about, and we mark it down as an unanswered prayer because selfishly we want it to be done our way. God is beyond our comprehension. If you can understand it fully, it's not from God.
That's right, sometimes you don't realize the answer until a long time after. You might even think it is something bad at first.
This has happened to me several times. |

| When a bunch of posers (of the Matthew 7:21-23 variety), calling themselves "Christians", get together and "pray", there's really no rational reason to expect any great results.. |

There are a lot of contradictory studies on stuff like this. That is the way studies are.
It's almost impossible to pin this stuff down and expect it to behave like matter if it exist.
There is elusive evidence that prayer, magik or mind of matter have been effective, the conditions that have to be met to make it work is what we will never know on a scientific basis. |

God doesn't work like a vending machine and trying to test specifically for this vendorizing, it is no wonder there were not significant results. This type of study as Cap'n pointed out is only useful to those that wish to attack. It would have done nothing bolster my understanding of the power of Prayer even if there were significant positive results. When you experience it on daily basis, you know. Knock it or discount it however you wish, it will not change my attitude or continual application of prayer. |

You really think it's God's job to coerce and finegle the people around you into cooking homecooked meals for you whenever you so desire? .. and that if you just "pray about it", God will hop to it and "magically" make those people around you conform to your will?.. You really think this is how you express your devotion to God? By getting other people around you to serve you precisely the way you desire?
If your ends were anything more self-serving than a home-cooked meal, and your means any more powerful than your weak and hollow "prayers", we would style the art that you're practing here as Black Magic. |

So you are saying to ask God to help you with a problem in your life, no matter how small or large it may be, is black magic? You are truly out on a limb with that one, my friend. And you are sawing furiously.
Why haven't you learned anything yet? |

Making use of spiritual forces to serve and gratify your own (selfish) passions and desires, rather than to serve God and to act as a vessel of God's Will on Earth (and to always be making certain that "Thy Will, Not Mine, Be Done"), is always Black Magic..
Thankfully, most people (like say, John) just really really suck at it. |

Besides, I fail to see how John's example has anything to do w/ serving God's Will or expressing devotion to the Lord..
A real man would have the courage to simply tell his wife that he desires to eat homecooked meals instead of take-out. If his wife truly loved him, she would comply w/ his desire. Case closed.. Pretty simple stuff. No need to involve God in this .. |
