As some of you know there is this guy who has been I believe Chocolate New Orleans, Tookie Williams, Coach, and HcaoC in the last few weeks. He's a troll who likes to post about gay people.

I was wondering about how the banning actually works. Does one have to get on a different computer to sign up with different accounts, at least after being banned?

I was banned from a forum once, and I couldn't set up an account from the same computer because it blocked my IP address. Does PC do that?

If you are banned, usually your IP Address is not blocked at first. If you do make more accounts however, your IP Address will be bloacked.

I think so, but I'm not sure. All I know is that hypothetically, if this thread were to be moved, I would be "in" before such a move took place.

Hypothetically.

You can be banned by username or IP.

People can avoid IP bans as well. You don't even need to be particulary computer savvy, usually you just keep banning their nicknames and they give up after a while. Beyond an IP ban and banning their nicknames there isn't much you can really do.

If someone is wont to sign up again and cause problems for the site then the IP will be banned. It is effective up to a point. There are however measures that can be taken other than IP banning if the problem is ongoing. A lot of these people are easily picked up because they have a style which continues in the manner which got them banned in the first place. It's work to stay on the issue but that's forums for you. :)
