Persia is always a tough question. Persians came out of Iran but the Persian Empire was centered in Iraq, namely Babylon. Persepolis or Parsa, located in modern day Iran, was the official capital of Persia but in name only. It is often refereed to as the ceremonial capital. The power of Persia rested in Babylon following its bloodless conquest by Cyrus the Great in 539BC until the defeat of Darius III by Alexander the Great at the Battle of Gaugamela in 331BC. Alexander had ostensibly defeated the Persian Empire before ever setting foot into Iran.
But in the end I will have to answer D. |
