The biggest strike is looming in the UK since the General Strike of 1926. The Government and the Local government Association are trying to change the Local government Pension scheme to a detriment of its members
UNISON website states:
Members of the local government pension scheme are being discriminated against.
The government has ruled that members of the uniformed police, armed forces, NHS, civil service and teachers' pension schemes - colleagues we often work alongside - should be able to retire at 60 and have their pensions benefits protected.
Yet the government is changing the local government pension scheme for the worse, forcing us to work longer or receive a smaller pension.
Contrary to newspaper propaganda, we don't retire on "fat cat" pensions. Women, who make up three quarters of the pension scheme members, get an average pension of just £31 a week. For many, pensions fall below benefit levels.
These changes will affect 10% of all working people, their families and their communities.
My own Local government Pension Scheme is oppossed to these changes because the say they are "awash with money"
Why is this government, a so called labour government, treating local government employees in this way? It has long been my understanding that the government want to do away with Local government and outsource everything :x |
