I am now allowed to play computer games on our old laptop. Soooooo, since I love RTS games I guess I am wondering what the best one?
The laptop in a Windows 98, although I would prefer a if the game was Windows 95 and up. I bought Civilization III today, uninstalled a bunch of programs, installed Civ III, and it said I need Windows 98SE.
The RTS game must have some sort of military action, whether it be a side option like the Civ games, or the main gameplay like Comand and Conquer.
Thanks. |

Civ is not an RTS, it is turn based strategy and as such s*cks. Try Rise of Nations. It's all about conquering the world. That game was HIGHLY addicting, IMO. Almost as addicting as Star Wars Battlegrounds. |

Command AND f***ing conquer!
Buy the new "the first decade" pack, however its not all roses.
There is a bug that wont allow the red alert vids to be watched.
They say they are working on a fix for it though.
Also, the multiplayer for the classic games are batched, i dont know if they will do anything about it though.
I really Really want to play tiberian Dawn on multiplayer. |

| WCIIIFT or SC. Blizzard makes the best games, period. SC and WCIII have very balanced gameplay and skill is what shows through, not game-breaking units. Plus they are fun. CivIII was okay... Blizzard owns Sid Meir though. But of course, WCIII will not run on a Win98. At least... I don't think so... |

| If you're going old school, go Total Annihilation. Pure military real time strategy and tons of third party add ons. |

Thank you ProtoStar. :-D
I think I favor Rise of Nations of Command and Conquer...... but as cheap as they are on eBay I could get both RoN and some C&C games. :-D
I might get Total annihilation later..... but the graphics are better in RoN. :-D |

go with starcraft dude. go online and play them UseMapSettings. so many cool things to do other than killing out opponent. the great and most special thing about SC is that people have hacked it so much they have figured out how to stack units, create special effects, move mountains or objects, name spoof hacks, and other stuff i dont really care about. plus its free and still has a massive online playing community.
for example
fight termendous amount of enemies with a limited amount of units along with other players(Impossible Senarios)
stop enemy forces from breaking your wall(usually it has defend in the game title, Marine Defence ~perfection~/ Tarpit Defence 4.4i think?)
bunker wars(wait and accumalate a large enough army and strategicly attack opponents)*note units have air/land attack strengths, splash and special effects*
UMS senarios like:
The landing of normandy
WWI
WWII
WWIII
9/11
IraqWar(operation whatever)
Battle for middle earth
Helms deep
Art of Defence
tank defence
cat and mouse
yu gioh
magic the gathering
25 tricks
iq test
you can also play remakes of TRON, poker, weakest link, sims, final fantasy, myst, everquest, other cool funny stuff. |

I love turn based strategy games, and Civ is definitely one of the best.
As far as consol turn based games go, I really like Panzer General, with Allied General following close behind :-D |

Dude, CIVIII has a tough time running on my AthlonXP2100, with windowsXP!
Some laptop with windows 98 just is not sufficient.
You may be able to run Fallout Tactics: Brotherhood of Steel, along with Fallout 1, and Fallout 2, great strategy games, lots of cool guns, you'd like it I think...
Fallout 1 and Fallout 2 have turn-based battle modes, but Fallout Tactics gives you the option between real time and turn-based, which is pretty cool... Both have tons of strategy involved

I almost won an auction on eBay. I was wanting to buy Rise of Nations for around $15, so I wait for the 10 second mark, I enter the bid, hit enter, thinking "muwhahahaha commies, I just won the auction".
But what did I forget to do?
Sign in, you gotta sign in before bidding. There's always next time.
Thanks everyone for your advise! It is greatly appreciated! :-D |

Maybe that was a stroke of luck, the PC I will be using has 64MB of RAM, and RoN requires 124MB of RAM. :1evil:
I guess I will stick with Command and Conquer. StarCraft looks fun, but I'll stick with a more "earthly" game for now. :) |
