| I was just curious what do other people do to refrain from sinning and help live a better life closer to God. I like to read a book pertaining to Christianity, it helps remember to think before I do something that is immoral, which has helped me walk a straighter path. |

I am not Christian, so take my advice with that knowledge in hand.
In order to live a life avoiding sin and closer to God, I have always thought that simply living by the Golden Rule is a good place to start. By treating others with respect you can avoid some sins associated with anger, jealousy, violence, and the like.
Beyond that, it is up to each person to understand what Christianity asks of them, and how they worship or treat themselves, and follow through to the best of one's abilities.
However, it has been told to me, all people are sinners. If that is the case, then doing what you can do to avoid harming others or yourself seems the easiest, and best, course of action as it would be impossible to avoid all sin.
Just my two cents, by the way. |

I'm not a Christian either, but I think the Jesus character had some interesting advice. Only thing is though, you've got to filter through a lot of contradictory messages to get within fifty miles of being there.
So here's my interpretation of what the Jesus character basically said...in a nut shell.
All these Jewish laws suck! I mean we've got over six hundred frickn' laws to follow, in order to be a good upstanding Jew and not sin. I'm not here to change any of that...but what I do want to say, is that "sin" is purely a man made invention. Even if you don't follow all of those laws, it doesn't necessarily make you a bad or ungod worthy person.
btw...I don't spend even one moment worrying about sin, or doing something immoral. I thought most of the ten commandments were good, and good enough. They're common sence and what I like to call "natural law." Well excepting for the ones that refer to having "one" god...and I don't feel a bit bad about mentioning it...in that Christians have three.
So if I decide to masturbate tonight, or a couple of beers. Some Christians might freak themselves out and say, omfg! I've done something immoral that's a sin!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
No!, not me...I'll just sit there with a smile on my face and continue to enjoy life for the moment! What would Jesus do? *offers toast with wine glass* |
