We had an awesome message today in Church. It was about volunteerism vs. servitude.

As members of the Royal Household of the Lord, we are called to service. Democratic volunteerism is not an option as a servant. We belong to God. He has bought us. We are the blood bought, eternally greatful, servant of a righteous, forgiving and most loving God.
I thought it was an awesome sermon. We are servants to the lord and when God asks us to do something or when we hear that voice, that calls upon us, or when volunteers are need it's not an option, we as Christians, serve.

I thought the French Revolution and the Magna Carta settled all of that. Dang those theologians! if it weren't for secularist democrasy...there wouldn't be any Freedom of Religion!

But then again, I can see why theologians wouldn't paticuarly care for...or embrace that concept. Plus a voluntary tithe, prolly wouldn't fill the offering plate like a good servant's ten percent.

I'm off on a rant...it's just some of the terminology you'd described, that are steeped in the Old World traditions. ruffles me feathers!

But in absence of my own perceptions, it sounds like you really enjoyed the concept and message. That's all that really counts. :-D

If it were not for the Reformation concept of freedom of religion and just plain freedom in general there would be no secularists. You can thank men like Martin Luther and John Wesley for that.

You have it backwards, son.

What about the Diest, and the Enlightenment, and all of the other social forces at work during the 18th century? In telling the story of America, there are many themes of which Religion only plays a peripheral role.

In the interest of expanding the topic, I've started a new thread in the religion section. :-D

You will need to go to the 15th and 16th centuries to get to the bottom of this.
