CHICAGO (Reuters) - The governor of South Dakota on Monday signed into law severe restrictions on abortion, in a direct challenge to the U.S. Supreme Court's legalization of the practice 33 years ago.

Abortion foes have said they hope to use the South Dakota law to eventually bring the issue back before the high court, where they believe conservatives added to the bench by President George W. Bush in the last year could weaken or dismantle the court's landmark Roe vs Wade decision of 1973.

Supporters of Roe vs Wade have promised a legal challenge to the new South Dakota law.

Personally, I love this, but I'm not to sure the Supreme Court will. This move was probably made prematurely.

I really hope they get this before the Supreme Court and overturn Roe v Wade for the simple fact that I think this like most things should be a state decision.

In all honesty, did anyone doubt something like this was going to happen onece the bench made such a biased turn? Im not suprised at all.

If they remove, partial birth abortions, or anything past the first trimester; its fine

Im simply worried the Reds wont stop there

I'm scared that you are calling them the Reds. The Blues and the Greens.
I know that my vote is wasted on a green ticket so I am told. They aren't
tv worthy. As far as the abortion issue is concerned I was privy to the cases information in school. It was a date rape case in wich the woman felt that if
she didn't have the right to choose to have sexual intercourse. Why should
she not have the right to choose to not have this man's child.
You could look at cases of insest where there was sexual abuse involved and
the child in their right mind might not be able to take care of a child.
The child or young person might not want the burden of another mouth to feed. I know its unChristian. Its a matter of self preservation I believe.
You put on to your children the burdens you yourself bear. I know I'm being
vauge. I was on medication for along time and had problems that I wouldn't want to put a child through. So I didn't believe in adoption because of personal reasons I aborted the child. I feel no remorse. I am happy that I
didn't make his life terrible.

in most places abortions are allowed up until the first trimester.
emspecially in a rape case a desicion should be made by then, anything less or after the first trimester would require a partial birth abortion and thats simply irresponsible and inhumane

I was aware of the procedure being introduced under the Clinton Admin.
It was before I became pregnant and I'm not going to candy coat
my situation I wasn't a misunderstood child I was at first no doubt.
When I became a teen I believed my body was my right and nobody was
going to tell me what to do with it because of my upbringing. I was eighteen
at the time but my parents really had nothing to say except use condoms and
be careful about my sexual activity. Most of the precautionary learning and teaching measures had been done by the school. I meant to say I was eighteen when I terminated the pregnancy yes it was in the first trimester.
It was a quick decision based on my background. I would not be a good parent and furthermore because I had the abortion I would not deem myself
ever to be a good parent.

Roe Vs Wade was not a court issue about partial birth abortions. It was
for the right to have an abortion without the consent of the father
and in any trimester be it the first or the last.

having gone through the procedure could you tell us if the first trimester should be enough time for a woman to make a reasonable desicion responsibly?

I hope the girl is not laxed in finding out the answer if she is or is not pregnant. I certainly have mental issues I didn't want to pass on my case
I look on in a different manner. I would go on a case by case basis. You see
I can't determine the needs of another woman. My needs were based on what I thought would make mine and my childs life better. I think that is what
women think of when considering abortion. Its not an easy answer for most.
Not as easy as it was for me I would definately assume. Although if it is an easy desision I would say yes in the first trimester. If it was not and said mother could not abort the child say for reasons that she did not want to abort the child but had no alternative but to die or to have the child.
That is landmark I can't justifiably remark. In my opinion and in my own mind. I would say that the woman has the right if its possible to choose her own life. Wouldn't that be anyone's right? I mean to say if the child was going
to put her life at risk. There is always that 1 percent you have to watch for.
Adoption is okay. My personal experiance is a little off hand. My father who is adopted swears his adopted parents were ruthless although there is no proof.
He is a very messed up individual. He still wishes he had his real mom.
Its all sad.

Alula, You say you didn't want a bad life for your child. So why did you end it.
He could have been put up for adoption. Your reasons seem selfish.

senseless is alot of things that you don't know about my life. You want me
to throw a pity party for myself and I'll tell you what I'm not gonna do it.
My child would not have had what it needed to survive. end quote. You can
say or assume all you want about me but I know the facts sir. I know what kind of people I am associated with. Be them my parents me it my father.
Who is by the way the most Schitzophrenic person you will ever meet in your whole life. He says he talks to his dead brother and tells me this when he stops by. So tell me something I don't know about crazy people and what
products of children they bring into the world and I'll give you a medal sir.

Thank you for clarifying your reason. Yet I am still not convinced. The baby was alive in you. That is my belief. Whether or not he would have been mentally challenged makes no difference. I would not kill a unborn disabled any sooner than I would kill your father.

Well, not exactly warm thoughts on your father but it seems reasonable. If you're saying violent removal of the mentally challenged is good for the country, I've got a problem with that. That belief was prevalent in Nazi Germany. At the most extreme, you should have your self sterilized. That would definitely stop the pool if your worried.

Challenged people should be give help and love. They're an opportunity for charity, mercy, and grace. No matter how you feel about them they are there and people are willing and trained to help.

By now you might have guessed that my thoughts toward the new law in question are ones of approval. If the mother is sick than it is up to the doctors
and the parents. If you want to have an abortion because you don't want a child, than get harvested or sterilized. If you don't want the kid now but maybe later, I recommend abstinence. If it's to late than get some assistance, have the child, put it up for adoption and don't get in that predicament again.
I don't think that this is to much to ask. If this was done than everyone in South Dakota will be just fine.

not the overall economy fool. I'm only one person. I'll level with you I didn't want a kid and I didn't want anybody else to have it either. If they did I would
spend a lifetime wondering if this was him or that was him. I used to do it when I was a kid when my grandfather died. I'm a huge child. I chose not
to bring a child up where I am sleeping fourteen hours a day because of meds. where I sleep that long without meds. Then you have to feed children and clothe them. I knew exactly what needed to be done and it was more
than I could give. The child would depend on grandparents and be neglected.
I wasn't going to let anyone else do it either.
