i see this all the time, and it irritates me.
People throwing cigarette butts out the window because they dont want to dirty their pretty little ASHTRAYS.
Its LITTERING just like if I threw a bottle out my window. Dont think that just because its small its meaningless litter. That stuff piles up.
If you smoke, put the butts where they belong. Either in your lungs, or your ashtray. but, not on the road.
i knew someone who was fined for littering when he decided to make earth his ashtray by flicking his butt out his window. A cop pulled him over, and fined him. I thought, "GOOD..." |

| Who really caares. It's not like they have any significant effect on anything anyway. And anyplace they might add up is already polluted and urbaized, so its not like any wild life is being affected anyway. Despite the fact its gross, it poses no significant threat to anything. Stop losing so much sleep all you EPA and ELF terrorists. Focus on something that might actually matter or have some sort of significance. |

You've never been in a forest fire caused by one I take it? Not a pleasant expierience to be honest. |

A forest-fire CAUSED by a cigarette-butt? Now that would be IMPOSSIBLE to prove.
I used to flick cigarette-butts out the window. But grass-fires along the roadside are COMMON. So, I stopped doing that -- so goes the 'public excuse' -- because the 'real' reason is I smoke pot when I drive drunk and don't want to get pulled over for throwing something out the window. ;)
They are indeed biodegradable. The contents is plant. The wrapper is paper made from, well, plants. The filter is cotton, which is made from, well, plants.
But they are unsightly. Job-security for parking-lot clean-up crews ... but not appreciated in peoples' landscaping ... nor potted-plants ... nor entryways. As for MY OWN PROPERTY, I encourage it -- on bare-dirt spots ONLY -- as it is easy to pick them up from time-to-time
No matter what, some people will concoct ANY EXCUSE to HATE 'not their kind of people,' in so-called 'positive-goodness.' If you do not like smoking, I encourage you NOT TO DO IT. SIMPLE. |

The environment matters more than human life, without a safe healthy environment, all people will die. Without humans the natural world won't die. |

Throwing your cigarette butt on the ground is not going to have any really impact in the enviroment. It's still littering and ugly though. |

If there are ashtrays, I use them. Or, if possible, I bring a soda can or something with me to put butts in.
My university istituted a new smoking policy, making smokers move 30 feet from doorways to smoke. Okay, no problem. But, they then got rid of about half of the ashtrays on campus. Well, guess what? Smokers, myself included, started littering butts all over campus in record amounts. They brought the ashtrays back.
Want us to move? Fine, but make sure you still give us ashtrays. |

Haha I love it when people say this!
Yeah littering is gross, but cigarettes aren't gonna impact the environment a whole heck of a lot. |

well, the earth needs to stop me then
Cig butts gives minimum wage janitors a job. without me littering, they would hire less janitors. Therefore, I am merley stimulating the economy by providing the need for jobs.
Besides, in 80 years, when I'm dead, gone and forgotten by all but maybe my then elderly grandkids, who cares what condition the earth is in |

I agree 100%, especially in times of drought.
For something truly disgusting, look out the window at a stoplight on an interstate exit. You will more than likely see 100s of cig butts, where pig smokers empty their ashtrays. |

what, a scenario that while Deputy Fife was busy giving a ticket for a cig butt out the window, a real crime could have been happening that he could have prevented?
What's so unreal about that |

1.) That's under the assumption that a police officer who's basically walking a beat and looking out for trouble would actually be at a drug deal and ready to bust some heads. An unrealistic example.
2.) The world would be a better place if most drug deals went down unchallenged. |
