i will most likely be going on a loooooonnnggg trip soon, with driving the the airport, flying and multiple layovers, plus traveling onm a slow moving train as well as waiting on the train we are talking about a 60 or so hour trip, one way
ive done this before, the train is great, but this year i want something to make it go faster, since i can almost never sleep on the plane and reading is just irritating to me on a plane
so im trying to find some kind of digital video device, i have equipment to transfer television into my comp and i have some editing stuff, i can even rip down DVDs, so all that is taken care of, the biggest problem i have is finding something with enough battery life that doesnt cost an arm and a leg
i dont need a huge screen, though i would refuse one
ive been looking into several items, a HD based video player similar to an Ipod type, or a portable DVD player
problems?
the Ipods have a max battery life of 20 hours, though i doubt they go that long playing movies, and none of the portable DVD players i have found play longer than 3 hours
wouldnt be a problem if they had replaceable batteries but no, its all special rechargable stuff that im pretty sure will cost too much to have several of
anybody got sugestions, im really out of my league here |

iPod videos generally only last 2 hours...backlight being lit eats up the battery like no other...does the plane/train have an outlet on it? Many trains have 3 pronger outlets and planes have those cigarette lighter types...
And where the hell are you going? |

Look into a PSP.
You can get movies for them and play games. Great screen and video for its size.
Battery life is great and you can carry extra in your pockets plus have a plug. |

So is a PSP.
But the movies are not really expensive. An older reliece is about the same cost as a new one on DVD.
Not as much as the game though.
I can't wait for some Chinese outfit to come up with a UMD burner. Then the PSP will really take off. Its already a full computer.
And there is a linux hack for it to put a full linux operating system on it. |

| Could you get an extra battery/power pack of some sort for the ipod? Not sure if they make them, but I know that cell phones have them. |

Get a GP2X http://www.gp2x.com/
It emulates all kinds of systems, you can mod it with extra batteries and even a 120gig laptop harddrive connected via usb, ducttape it into one nice brick, and have all the movies you need everywhere with tons of battery life... |
