I would like to get some opinions on this.

Apparently the Rom (gypsies) may have had their origins in the land of Midian. Do you think they could have been connected to the Rehabites(Kenites) mentioned in Yermiyahu chapter 35?

There is quite a bit of good evidence to connect them with the Hyksos people.

Any thoughts?

Just curious: is Midian where the Biblical figure Jethro (known as Shuayb in the Koran) came from?

Yes, these folks were the Qeyniy (Kenites), the smiths. Workers of Iron. Which is how they defeated the Egyptians so easily. And built the Pyramids. They were ruling Egypt when Joseph arrived there and later lost Egypt (the Egyptians who overcame the Hyksos and enslaved the Hebrews were the Pharoahs who didn't know Joseph in Exodus 1:7) and retreated to the desert and that was where Moses found them. From there they aparently made their way into India and sojourned there for a lengthy time.

Interesting. Thank you for your input, cap'n. As a side note (I really do not want to derail this subject), it is mentioned in the Koran that Moses weds one of Jethro's daughters. Is it also mentioned in the Scriptures that Moses marries one of Jethro's daughters? I can't remember exactly what the whole story was though. As for the topic, I'd like to add a small insight about the Midianites. In the Koran, it is mentioned that many Midianites were actually greedy and did not deal well with fiscal matters, and their deceitful nature was condemned by Jethro, who preached God's Message to these people. Do the Scriptures speak the same?

Quote: Do the Scriptures speak the same? I think there is something to do with this mentioned in scripture, at least the actions of some of their descendants, the Rehabites in Jerusalem which I mentioned earlier, were noteworthy enough to mention in Yermiyahu 35 so they must have contrasted in some way with other actions associated with their people. Jethro was certainly a good man. I would venture that they were like most groups of people, most had their faults but some (like Jethro) stood out for their righteousness.

This is so.

Be my guest, this does not bother me. I usually derail my own threads anyway.

There doesn't seem to be much interest in the subject beyond us, anyway.

Ok, pertaining to the original topic, you're saying that the gypsies have a connection to the Midian. Are the Midianites in anyway connected to the Israelites?

Just curious...

No, not at least since the time of Moses anyway.
