I have been on this site for a short period of time. Within the first week I was warned - maybe rightly so - and I acknowledged I would need to watch myself.

Then I got suspended a week or so later and still to this day don't even know what my "offense" was that merited suspension.

Now I am posting here and there and see all kinds of people being banned or suspended. Some names I recognize and never thought they were too "excessive" for the most part.

Is it me or do some people go whining to the admin so much and so often when they perceive that they MAY have been slighted or what?

Every post I put up or respond to, I wonder if this will be the post that will get me suspended or banned. I'll admit sometimes emotions can take over and we can get a bit carried away but I also think people need to toughen up a bit and stop running to the admin reporting every post they find even slightly offensive.

Unless you're a 5 year old, you can handle it. I'll try to as well....

Well, sometimes people get out of line, and Suspension is the only punishment the mods and admin have.

While if it were up to me, I would certainly allow a great deal of leeway, there are times when a suspension of banning I believe are warranted. Some people post in such a way as a reasonable debate are impossible, and they need to be dealt with. And then you get people like that guy yesterday, who came on here and out of nowhere started calling the admins insults and threatened to hack the site and destroy the database…and from the way he talked, didn’t seem like he was incapable of doing it. That guy needed his ass booted for sure. I’ve only gotten one warning out of 2400 posts…but I sure had that one coming I can admit, and I knew it before I posted. But by and large, if it were up to me, I’d let everyone get away with a lot.

Ok consigliere, I can agree with that. Here and other sites there are people that go FAR over the line.

Someone who consistently displays no class SHOULD be banned or suspended - again, I just don't know what I did to deserve being banned and, based on experience from an old site which got shut down due to too many people crossing the line and too many people whining (the Boston Herald site).

There is a difference between someone crossing the clear line and someone being banned or suspended because someone get their feelings hurt and ran to the mods :cry1:

I am no bully, Cyber or otherwise - I have always stuck up for the "underdog". I just think some people might be better off on the Barney the Purple Dinosaur site than political sites if they are that sensitive (just as some people belong on the "I hate everyone" site for being callous jerks)...

I think people are getting banned to easily. This site isn't anywhere near as bad as freerepublic or democraticunderground, but the banning policy still seems a bit excessive.

More people need to be banned, the warning/banning policy here is far to lenient. All you find in P&G is spam and flaming everywhere with no action taken for it what so ever.

With regard to what foadi said, yes but they ban purely for ideological reasons and let flaming and the other idiocy continues. So I wouldn't consider that a "strong banning policy".

What ideological reasons do you speak of Y2A?

Oh, as for why people have been banned -- we have discussed it enough with those people that needed to know and we will not discuss the issue further, other than to say that those who have been banned have broke the rules.

I agree, it should take a lot to get banned, but it is a necessary precaution on the part of the staff, as there is no other way to enforce the rules.

A lot of the time people get banned for things they don't do in the public domain.

Bannings and suspensions are pretty much are do to a history, with the exception of spammers who get instantly banned. You can't see the build up of that history by reading the final straw that broke the camel's back.

Read the rules. If you disagree with them, then don't post on here if you intend not to honor them because you will find out how fast those rules apply.

This is one of the few political forums where all political ideals can be expressed without the leadership booting you. But if you cross that line repeatedly, the leadership will not tolerate it.

Plain and simple and the way it should be.

We don't discipline just because somebody complained. Likewise, we often discipline when nobody has complained.

When one is suspended/banned, an email is sent to the address registered with the account explaining the decision. Check your email for an explanation...and make sure it wasn't filtered by a spam filter. The email comes from "forum at politicalcrossfire.com." If you are sure you did not receive an email, PM me or an admin and the action will be explained.

Also, if you have any questions/comments about any moderator and his/her actions, PM one of the admins.

As for posters getting thicker skins....I disagree. The thinner their skin is, the better, as it gives the staff a better chance of catching infringing posts.

Broken, Rob. They've broken the rules.

Notonly were you quoting me, but I do believe "broke" does work in this sentance, as does "broken."
