I've also heard that they gave up their old unIslamic ways and decided to join the bigger group, the NAIS (North American Islamic Society) or something like that.

Quite interesting. I've heard that the NOI joined the larger North American Muslim Association and denounced all their previous practices.

Did they?

No.They softened their image.Farrakhan was still talking about Elijah Muhammad a few months ago.At one time the first NOI did join mainstream Islam,Farrakhan is it's second incarnation though.

More history.

I've heard that Wali Farad claimed himself to be God incarnate, and that Elijah Muhammad was his prophet. I've been following on the Nation of Islam issue for quite a while. I've heard that Malcolm X quit the NOI when he found out of its inherent corruption: Elijah Muhammad was found to have mistresses, I believe.

Thanks for the link, though.

Yea,after Malcolm X went to Mecca and he said"drank from the same cup as people that would be considered white"he left the NOI(he also found out that the NOI leader was fathering children with young girls in the organization).

It got his house fire bombed and two members of the NOI shot him, they are still in prison.

A lot of people even think that Farrakhan ordered that hit.

It might have been possible for Farrakhan to do something like this. As a Sunnite, I don't consider him a legal authority on Islamic affairs more than this ex-accountant-turned-preacher. I admire Malcolm X because he stood against the racist and pedophilic values that make up this NOI organization.

here's a good place to start.

Separatists is a more accurate definition. But racist, that's stretching the truth. You’d be hard pressed to back up that claim using N.O.I.’s own study material. The Nation has always maintained to obey the law of the land and remain peaceful. But if someone puts their hands on you or your loved ones’ in anger, see to it that they never harm anyone else again. But as menacing as that statement may sound, we never came to the conclusion that blowing up packed buses or flying airplanes into buildings was an acceptable way to deal with our enemies.

But don't take my word for it, study to your own conclusions. After all, that IS what America is all about…

Quote: WE BELIEVE that the offer of integration is hypocritical and is made by those who are trying to deceive the black peoples into believing that their 400-year-old open enemies of freedom, justice and equality are, all of a sudden, their "friends." Furthermore, we believe that such deception is intended to prevent black people from realizing that the time in history has arrived for the separation from the whites of this nation. If the white people are truthful about their professed friendship toward the so-called Negro, they can prove it by dividing up America with their slaves. We do not believe that America will ever be able to furnish enough jobs for her own millions of unemployed, in addition to jobs for the 20,000,000 black people as well

Thats what the KKK say.Are they racist?

http://www.blackapologetics.com/noiwhat.html

What I think they fear is that if people in a society mix they will start to see each other as human beings rather than colors. It's a lot easier to hate people that you don't interact with and see as people like yourself.

Now that's a separatist declaration if I’ve ever read one. But it always comes back to them being the Black equivalent of the KKK or Nazis. Exactly how many people have the N.O.I. killed in the name of their cause? Black boogie-men indeed. I wouldn't worry too much about their influence over the African-American community though. And as stated above, the main body of the NOI rejoined orthodox Islam sometime ago. And much of what Malcolm and John Little (founder of the 5%) taught has made it into mainstream America, if only indirectly so…
