Did you just hook it up??

You need to call your ISP and give them your new MAC address to access the net.

Should be on a sticker in the box or on the bottom of the router.

Your ISP will walk you through an activation process via phone.

Just tell the Provicer and they request it from the new hardware.

Its a security number all hardware uses to identify itself. Your Provider uses it so no one who hasn't paid gets access.

I called mine and in one minute was reset and on line. Never had to do a thing but tell them what I was doing. They don't care.

Yeah, that information would have been a little more useful at the beginning of your post ya think? :x

I dunno, you may try to reregister the MAC address as your loading the new firmware may have changed something. That's usually the issue when you have access to the network and no internet.

Is your computer still saying you are online? You can tell if you open Thunderbird or Outlook Express or MSN and it still connects but you have no internet. Auto updates will still work too. Also, it will say your network cable is undone in the system tray.

Have you tried manually changing the address?

Most routers have administration software built in that lets you change all that.
The internal routers firewall could have reset during the upgrade. Check it out.

It may be more normal than you think, I always set DNS server as 4.2.2.4 though. Always works then.

If your gateway were also a DNS server it would work, many routers have built in DNS servers.

Well it is working right now, but the thing is i don't knwo what caused it to die! When it dies in teh future it'll suck majorly.

Linksys switched from the linux based os to some other crap, so no more third party mods. I didn't read the barcode when i brought it and now i'm stuck with it :(

I have a Linksys combo cable modem/router/wireless and it's the best thus far and very clean without all the extra crap lying around. I have been through Motorola, Belkin, and Netgear and they were all crap, constant reboots. Linksys is the best and most stable on the market.

I use the Netgear WGR614 wireless 4-port router connected to a Westell Wirespeed Bridge DSL modem. I prefer the Netgear over the Linksys, DLink and Belkin because of the ethernet/wireless packet handling. The other routers cause my ethernet connection (when gaming) to lag when there is a lot of wireless activity and the Netgear is always smooth as silk even when downloading bigtime wireless. Also the signal strength is better. Even 30 feet away and it gets an excellent connection, whereas the Linksys I first bought was having signal strength problems (even with two antennas).

My router has never needed a reboot once. Has worked flawlessly for 9 months with zero problems.

Key Benefits

* Speeds of 802.11g - up to 5x faster than 802.11b
* 10/100 Mbps on WAN
* Double Firewall - SPI & NAT
* Smart Wizard™ automatically detects ISP settings and walks you through installation
* Compatible with 802.11b devices and 802.11g devices
* Shares broadband Internet access to every PC in your home
* Wi-Fi Protected Access Pre-Shared Key (WPA-PSK)
* Up to 128-bit WEP encryption
* VPN pass-through support
* MAC address authentication

Of course that will change tomorrow. I'm getting FTTP (15meg down 2meg up) tomorrow with a DLink VDI-604 wireless router.

Mine will drop on occasion as well. First I go to the status page and if it's disconnected I click connect. If it doesn't reconnect I unplug the ADSL modem, the router, reconnect and log back into the router and check the status. It will nearly always be reconnected.

Another problem I occasionally have with dropping the connection is that Bell claims I am the terminating connection on the line. I don't know if I believe them, but I went to all of the connections and replaced them with new and clean connections. All corrosion and faulty connections are now gone and have not had that particular problem since. That's why I don't believe them. They said I would suffer a lot of line loss due to being the end of the line, but a clean up got rid of it so I doubt their story.
