| Mine goes to me, my family, friends, and confederates. Then to a lesser extent my community. But thats about it and by community i mean locally not the world community or human community. |

| My list is similar, but I include both distant relatives and the fellow citizens of my nation, as well as my brothers and sisters in faith; my obligations to those more distant from me are correspondingly more vague and less compelling. |

| I would include everyone in my country, all leftists, all those in need, all my distant cousins across the world and everyone who is worse off than me. I hate to see human suffering (and animal suffering), especially if it's suffering that is easily preventable. Of course, I wouldn't hate to see certain people suffer (fascists, neo-nazis etc). |

Derive the source and nature of obligation.
I have obligation to no man bar my children.(as i being the reason for there existance) Nor have any to me. |

| And if it is further than ours? You spend all your time helping people? Just cause you care about everyone doesn't make you a better person, maybe to hippies, but who cares about hippies. My universe of obligation is small becaues I want the people I care about to be happy and very comfortable before I even consider considering others. It maybe a small universe but I don't weakly help people I care about. I go all out for them. |

Obligation? Those who show me respect. That is, not those who suck up, but those who debate honestly, do not try to manipulate me and do not choose themselves over me when it starts to rain.
Still, that obligation only goes that far. If need be, I can leave everything behind.

Everything? Woah... thats ambitious.
And to the person before that. Debate is a criterion? Is it that important? I'd have to say that even in my small and contentious world there are other things more important than arguing. |

I don't know, I've never thought about it.
How liberating it is, not having an answer to ambiguous questions. |

My obligations extend beyond just myself, but on different levels.
First Ring of Obligation: Myself. First and foremost is always going to be my own interests. If this seems selfish, don't blame me, take it out on Hobbes. Without myself, I can't really have an obligation to anything else.
Second Ring: Those I love. While love may be a relative term, I know what it means to me, and I know those that I love. My obligation to them is nearly as big as the obligation to myself, but not as big. Regardless, I would do anything for them.
Third Ring: Those close to me, but who I don't necessarily love. This includes my friends, family, and things of that nature. While I still feel an obligation to them, it's not nearly as big as my obligation to myself or my loved ones.
Fourth Ring: Humanity as a whole. I feel that it is my responsibility to make the world a better place, even when I'm on my own. I feel that as a member of this global community, it is my obligation to make it better.
Fifth Ring: The planet as a whole. I also have an obligation to the planet that I inhabit. Without the resources of the Earth, there really isn't much hope for humanity, my friends, my loves, or myself. |
