| I might pick this game up myself. I LOVE space games (X3 the Reunion, Homeworld 2, etc.) I also have to get Star Wars Empire at War. So many games, so little money and time. :( [/i] |

| Eh I'm not sure if I need money at this point, I just need to learn the game first and then find a corp or something to get in and start getting some skill. What should I do after I get done doing all the missions at the beginning? |

Join a corporation and start doing thigns with them. EVE is all about community. Join a corporation and makes some really good friends to have a laugh with. I've been playing for just over a year now and am not bored because of my corp mates.
Or you could make your own corporation if you want, but it's hard to start one early on because you need to put your skill training into more important skills then corporation management skills. Still you could train corporation management 1 or 2 and have 10 or so members in your corporation.
You should also decide what you like in the game and trian your skills towards that. If you prefer fighting as I do then concentrate on combat skills, if you prefer trading then concentrate on that, mining concentrate on industrial skills, etc...
If you want I'll send you my email in a PM and we can chat on msn or something if you want advice on things, etc...
As I said in another post convo me in game if you need advice/help (I'll help depending on where you are cos my security rating restricts me from entering certain areas of space lol). |

Take some screenshots when you are playing. The only thing they show in trailers and website are of space and ships and crap. |

Yes, those images are in fact screenshots believe it or not. You can press Ctrl + F9 ingame to take away the hud and leave only the graphics.
Here are some screenshots taken directly from my screenshot folder in the EVE directory:
- Apocalypse Battleship (Screen caught during a full volley of megapulse lasers)
- Rupture Cruiser (Screen caught in the middle of 720mm artilleries firing)
- Badger 2 hauler with HUD showing (getting the crap shot out of mey by NPCs in a belt...)
- Attacking 3 NPC battleships with a Raven battleship
- Aa Taranis interceptor with 6 or 7 of my corpmates in battleships just before we warped to a gang of war targets to kick them (with HUD showing)
- Crusader interceptor
- Kestral frigate
- Broadsiding an NPC apocalypse battleship with my own Apoc
- Firing Tacheon Beam lasers from an Apocalypse
- My Tempest battleship in an asteroid belt
EVE is beautiful... |

So you don't ever board another ship and cap it's crew and steal their stuff or anything?? What is the point of this game?? If you're just flying around space all day how repetitive and boring. :-| |

I could say the same about WoW, running around all day capping monsters...
EVE has a massive community and it's developer's handsfree approach to ingame interferance means it has a very complicated political structure. You can suddenly find yourself cut off from massive areas of space because an alliance of say 20 or so corporations consisting of over 2000 people has claimed a region of space as their own. The alliance I am in (Red Alliance) has done this with large areas of space and we keep it locked down tight, anyone who enters who doesn't have good standings gets shot at on sight.
This policy of no interferance also means that theft is a very legitimate profession and I have done it myself many a time. Theft ranges from simply stealing people's loot cans and running off, to infiltrating small corporations and wiping the corporation wallets and corp hangers clean (as I have done) to the infamous workings of the Guiding Hand Social Club corporation run by a player known as Istvan Shogatsu. The GHSC specialise in assassination and infiltration of other corporations and once spent 8 months infiltrating their members into the highest ranks of the Ubiqua Seraph corporation so that they could assassinate it's CEO (leader) and steal over $13,000 worth of stuff at online MMO trade website prices. What could Ubiqua Seraph do about this once they had done it? Jack s**t :-D .
PvP can happen anywhere in EVE, there are no such things as completely 100% safe zones. You can attack anyone anywhere, it's just that if you attack someone in high security space the ingame security force will kick your arse. But that doesn't mean you can't scan people's ships to see what they're carrying, sacrafice a small ship to blow them up before Concord arrive and have a mate pick up the expensive stuff they've dropped...
Unlike WoW if you sell something to someone at a vastly reduced price you can't petition to get it back - CCP will say 'tough s**t'. If you get blown up you can't go corpse running to get your stuff. Unlike other MMOs this game actually carries risk and that's why it currently has one of the highest subscriber bases of any other MMO. All on one server, in one game universe. No crappy seperate sharded servers for EVE.
I can't describe the immensity of EVE, you have to play it to truly understand it.
The fact that EVE: Online and CCP games won 4 out of 7 awards on MMORPG.com for 2005 whilst being a 4 year old game also says a lot. It won the 'Favourite Company' category with 44% of votes, the 'Best Graphics' category with 51% of votes (WoW only got 19% lol), the 'Best PvP' category with 55% of votes and the 'Favourite Game' category with 40% of votes. WoW won 1 category, that being the 'Best PvE' category...congrats... |

| Polls and Awards don't count for sh!t. WoW has over 6 million players and scores an average 9.5 in overall gameplay while EVE only scores a laughable 6. |

I did, however like I said I thought the game had more dynamics like actually boarding ships etc. Flying around would do nothing for my attention span. Flying a space craft and shooting other ships around space is not like actually entering different lands and fighting. |

You can board other people's ships, just not in the way you were thinking unfortunately. Only if they have ejected from them. I make a living sometimes from using probes to scan for battleships that people have just left at safespots and gone off somewhere, and stealing them.
I like to think that EVE is a more mature game than WoW. It doesn't allow for power grinding, meaning you have to use your brains to get ahead and gain lots and lots of money. It's not all about bashing monsters, it requires a huge commitment and you wont do well without friends. It has a massive constantly changing political situation, and CCP are constantly releasing free content in the forms of new modules/ships/systems (They've just released capital ships
I also like the PvP in EVE. I have heard that in WoW a level 40 player could crap on 2x level 20 players without breaking a sweat. In EVE a player with 40million skillpoints would be taken down by 2x 20mill skillpoint characters unless he was a really good pilot and knew how the game physics worked. It is also possible for a vastly inferior ship to take down a ship of a larger class if flown well and strategically. For example capital ships have just been released in the form of dreadnoughts and carriers. These are the biggest and most destuctive ships in EVE, however if you fly them solo without support you will die. Simple things such as tracking attributes and velocity/transversal velocity factors added to combat situations mean that if you orbit someone at a high enough speed or at a close enough distance you are all but invulnerable to higher calibre turret weaponry.
The other thing I like about EVE is there is no endgame. There is no max level you can reach. You are not bound to one skillset. You can train anything you want, the only thing that your racial choice at the beginning of the game dictates is what skills you start off with.
Pebble wrote: Ah it looks so good, pity about the monthly fee, it's even bigger than usual...
Yeah, the more gametime you buy at a time the cheaper it is. I buy game time in chunks of 6 months which makes the cost work out at around £8 a month. If you just pay every month though it is expensive. |

Eve is a brainy game...it revolves more around your ability to do business and maintain good social and political connections than your ability to gain experience levels alone.
Anyway, I haven't been able to catch you on Eve yet, Flash. When are you on? |

Oh yeah plenty of items. The entire game pretty much takes place inside your ship...you can have multiple ships, all sorts of weapons, shields, mining lasers, etc. I'm not sure yet if you can create your own stuff, but there are engineering classes and science classes, so you probably can (maybe Flash can clarify that). There are no "points" and no character levels or anything. There are only skills, and in order to do certain things you have to train your character with those skills, which take time depending on your character's attributes (and money to buy the skills). |

You can buy bluprint originals and blueprint copies to manufacture your own stuff. Some people make ISK by building things from minerals they've mined/bought and then selling them. You can't design your own modifications...yet (it's a planned expansion).
The points I was refering too are skillpoints. As you train skills your skillpoints increase. If you look at the top of your charactersheet Gus it will tell you how many skills you have trained and how many skillpoints you have. For me it's something like 160 odd skills and 13 million skillpoints.
I can't connect to EVE atm Gus until I find a way around something. I'll send you a pm or something when I can. What's your character name? |
