Not because North Korea isn't a hellhole, and not because Americans haven't been (mostly) good for South Korea-- but because if Americans are attacking and invading North Korea, they are attacking Koreans.

It's like if the Confederacy had won the Civil War, and we were discussing what we'd do if they were invaded by France. You're damn right I'd take up arms in defense of my people-- even if they were living under a loathesome government.

When North Korea invaded South Korea, I think they pretty much plit ties.
I can't imagine why this sort of UnITY would happen.

Hmmm, lets see, If U.S. attack N. Korea, S. Korea comes to its aid (and possibly trying to Convert those evil Commies)....

That would make for an interesting Cluster F#ck !!

Well i am in the USAF stationed at Osan Air Base. They protest out in front of our gate all of the time. They are mostly peaceful but I truly believe, and this is not my over exhuberant pro US attitude alone speaking here, they should be eternally thankful to us or they would be part of the North.
Over 50,000 Americans died so that they could hate us. As military members we sacrifice alot of personal freedoms and leave our families by taking this assignment to guard these people. However when you are American you are used to being "damned if you do and damned if you dont"
I think that required reading for all South Korean kids should be "The Aquariums of Pyongyang" by Kang Chol-Hwan then they would see what the north offers them. The ignorance of youth.

Korea was UN. The US weren't the only people to give their lives.

But I agree, they should be thankful. The thing is, Korea's government allows, it not wants america to be there. American soldiers risked their lives on the border of the DMZ daily (I am not sure if they are back but I recall they were pulled from the DMZ in 2003). I remember reading that the "SK" forces have one objective in the DMZ...To stay alive long enough to call seoul in the event of a NK blitz.
