I was searching for the age of consent in different countries and noticed that several islamic countries have laws against homosexual sex.
Is this based on Islam (the Koran) or on other traditions/culture ?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Age_of_consent#Ages_of_consent_in_various_countries
Egypt: homosexual sex is not mentioned in the law but homosexuals are prosecuted under various moral statutes
Iran: extramarital sex is illegal (see: Marriageable age), note that homosexual sex may be punishable by death
Malaysia: homosexual sex is illegal (maximum 20 years' jail)
Anal penetration is illegal in Malaysia, regardless of age. |

| Christianity and Judaism are also against homosexual sexual contact, particularly sodomy. Extramarital sex is also forbidden in Islam. In Iran only is homosexuality punishable by death. However, the Gulf states have plenty of homosexuals and they are not prosecuted whatsoever. |

I think the prevention laws are good.
Those stop men to rather change their gender (virtually)...
I think the half reason of the less population is that in the west...

I knew about Christianity and Judaism but wasn't sure about Islam.
For some reason a lot of christians ignore the parts of the bible that is against homosexuality. In fact we have homosexual priests here in
Norway. |

Well, that's strange. Now you know that homosexuality is dealt with equally by all three religions; however, tolerance for homosexuals, especially non-Muslim homosexuals, is strongly recommended. |

But aren't the penalties in the countries mentioned in the first post a bit extreme for most Muslims? I'm for a free society that accomodates all people with all walks of life. Putting jail on moral grounds when homosexual sex doesn't affect the public is going to way to far methinks.
I understand that the Baltic States (like Saracen said) have homosexuals and no penalties for it, but in most ARab countries that allow homosexual sex, is there any backlash from the other communties? Is it better or worse than the crap that American homosexuals get in America from the non-gay communities? |

| Any sex outside of marriage is prohibited, not that stops people but if caught (ofcourse it would be in public to be caught) it would be punishable...The harshness of the punishment depends on the country though. Many countries just give a slap on the wrist...I am talking here sex in general not just homosexual intercourse.. |

I didnīt know that, I actually thought the opposite....  The Ottoman local governors had these male servants (called giousoufakia in Greek) about the relations of whom there are lots of rumours and sexual hints. That is stated clearly in great authors' books such as Kazantzakis...
Anyway, is adultery punished when commited only by women or that's irrelevant? |

Adultery on part of both men and women is punishable. The Ottomans were very brutal and corrupt, so they are a different story. |

Whys it unacceptable? There is no "right way" in this argument it is purely based on ones own views.
As for the priest being homosexual, it's not like there's something that says homosexuality is worse than any other sin. All the preachers that i've known could be found gossiping after church service, why do religious people (that are against homosexuality) always act like homosexuality is a much bigger sin? |

My personal take on it is that 'hey, if your homosexual, good for you, thats your business.'
Same Sex Marriages is a BIG NO! because marriage is a RELIGIOUS contract. In the eyes of god, and god in all three religions is against homosexuality.
Also you cant be a priest and homosexual... its impossible, How can you preachy, homosexuality is wrong... when you are homosexual your self. know what i mean?
Its like letting a criminal, be a judge, or a cop... and the cop/judge continue there criminal ways... |

There are christians that think it is ok to be gay. I don't understand it but it is a fact that there are gay priests. |
