The last inventive weapon i read about was the sonic sound blaster than the israelis use to knock crowds off their ass.
It would be somewhat comforting to think the US government is waking up to the fact guns are limited in use.
Is this administration's military a lame duck without any new ideas since unarmed recognisance and bunker busters? Does anybody have any links or such to show something new and interesting on the horizon? |

I heard they have some kind of new rifle where you don't need to pour the powder down the muzzle, then the shot and tamp it anymore. :-D
Might be in here somewhere.... |

I'd say the latest, most effective "innovation" in weaponry is the IED. Of course, IEDs aren't really a new innovation, but they are being used more often and more effectively than ever before. (If it sounds like I'm supporting the insurgency, I'm not, I'm just stating a fact.)
And while firearms do have "limited use" (you can't cook dinner with a M-16), they are still extremely valuable and necessary for a free society. Not to mention fighting a war. |

Bah! That newfangled technology is just the fad of the week. I'll keep my trusty, non-rifled, two-shots-a-minute muzzleloader, thank you very much. |

| How about a 12 Gauge Fully Automatic Shotgun. I'll bet Cheney's hunting buddy is glad that Cheney didn't have one of these. I sure wouldn't mind having one; it would be great for home defense. :tu: |

That's like France's best export outside of Letitia Casta. The Spas-12 is kick ass. |

Militarily? Mostly. With some notable exceptions. Unfortunately on the international battlefield scene... cheapo manpads rule. :] |

But one toy I wouldn't want to stand in front of when it's being played with.
I just like guns that make big holes. |

There are so many advances going on it is hard to keep track of - but I do - LOL

and so on and so on -
What I find a bit unnerving - even in the hands of those with the best intentions - are weapons systems that no longwer rely on human beings being under threat of injury or death. Robotic warfare and unmanned vehical warfare is alreadyy here and will be growing by leaps and bounds over the next few decades. My worry is that it makes war too easy - but then - if teh cause is just - there shouldn't be an issue with saving lives. Just sort of a sci-fi thing to consider because it is already here. |

Seldom will any action perpetrated upon the US require all out war. Making our reaction in Iraq without a Declaration of War highly questionable.
But with this new ability we do run some risk. We always do. But it does make actions that do not require all out war, most of them, much more effective, brief and more than likely causing far less death than is necessary. Especially on our own side. |

A fully automatic shotgun?
For those times when not just the second shot didn't help?
But also the third and fourth?

It's not the lack of threat to the user's life that unnerves me about automated war machines, it's just not having to see the enemy suffer. It makes it too easy for government officials to order the deaths of those they don't like.
It's like, if people had to actually kill a farm animal before they could buy meat from the super market or order some in a restaurant, people wouldn't eat so much meat.
Chivalry died with the first nocked arrow.
I wonder if it ever really existed? |
