Check your firewall settings.

Thanks for all the details..........

OS? Browser? Firewall?

Are you using Firefox and Norton on Windows?? There is a known issue and the only way to fix the problem is to uninstall and reinstall Norton Firewall.

Uninstall and reinstall the firewall and everything will be back to normal, it's a firefox issue with Norton.

First of all, verify that you can route.

Bring up a command prompt (START, RUN and type in CMD)

Type IPCONFIG at the command prompt.

If you have a 10. (ten dot) IP and you use a PPPoE connection, chances are your username and password are not matching the ISP.

If you have a 169. IP, then verify you are not using a connectoid (a Broadband connection in the Network Connections window).

Try doing a IPCONFIG/RELEASE and IPCONFIG/RENEW. If you just get a blinking cursor or an error, disconnect the ethernet cable and reconnect it. Try power cycling the router if that doesn't work.

If you are using DHCP, power cycle the modem then power cycle the router (once the modem gets sync). Often this fixes it. You may need a reboot on your PC.

If you aren't using a router, you should have a routable IP in your IPCONFIG.

If you are using a router, you should get a 192.168.1.XXX address (or something similar). Check the status inside the router config and see if you get a routable IP. If not, try a release/renew (in the router) or a disconnect/connect.

If you can ping www.yahoo.com or www.google.com (at the command prompt) yet you can't get anything to work inside IE or Firefox (or whatever), then it's probably your firewall blocking everything.

Often when I see Norton or McAfee kick in when trying to ping is a giveaway.
