|

Some F**K** p***k just hacked my windows while I wasn't around and while my connection was up and running. I came back and this hack was running with japanese manga style music in the background asking me if I wanted to patch libscan.dll. Also "ICU" was written in bold. I rebooted to ubuntu, thank god for linux! Try to screw me now you little punk!
This is the first time someone broke into my computer. Has this happened to anybody else?
BTW excuse me for the foul language. |

1. Linux isn't impenetrable, just so you know. Hope you have a firewall up and running on it.
2. Sorry about the hacker :-| |

Well I have the default firewall running on it. Right now I'm not worried about it. I'm sure this was the work of an amateur using somebody elses hacking tool. I wouldn't expect him or any of his kind to know much about linux. |

Most serious hackers use linux to do just that, what makes you think this hacker is on a windows box? |

| IMO, someone who would do that, is mentally deranged. It's about the same mindset as someone who would break a window come into your house and spray-paint profanities onto the walls or write weird messages onto your mirrors with lipstick or blood or something. These people need to be in a padded cell. |

I set up a linux router once and just watched all the incomming hits.
Last year I was getting on a cable hookup about 20 windows requests a minute for about 5 minutes then a 10 minute break and anouther set of hits.
It was just a zombie machine making a set series of hits on each ip it could find. If my machine had not been totally running stealth at the time and answered back I would have been a constant target.
Since your on linux watch the incoming port logs. 80% of all hits are requests to Xp machines and the rest are to Win2000 and windows servers. I have actually only once seen an request for something other than windows. But I've only watched for a few days total. |

Yep. Got the infamous SubSeven Trojan.
This nasty virus gives full control to the perps.
I knew I was infected when I got a dialog asking for password. I typed 'Go f**k yourself' - then the perp used my printer to print 'f**k you too'.
Crazy stuff. |

 I never have gotten a virus in Windows (at least not on my laptop). All I ran was Norton Antivirus and the default Windows firewall. I also ran Adware about once a week. |

| The one and only time I got infected was after a reformat and I didn't bother reinstalling my Norton's.Since then I learnt my lesson well and do not go without an antivirus program. |
