Suddenly my sound has stopped working. I havent used this machone much for a couple of months but i got broadband and didnt want to tie it to my laptop.

And for reason that i can see the sound just doesnt work! I went through the toubleshooter but that was crap. My pc plays the sound, my speakers work but nothing comes out!

Nothing is muted, there are no conflicts and i have XP certified drivers. My friend came over the other day and wanted to listen to some music. He connected some usb powered speakers but stuck the usb plug in an ethernet socket! -_-"

I cant see how that could have done anything.

I have had trouble with XP SP2, i tried to install it the other day and it failed. Then i did it earlier with no problems. But im sure the sound wasnt there before the failed atempt...

Any ideas? This is driving me crazy!

Uninstall the drivers, reboot, reinstall them, reboot, voila.........hopefully.

Just go to device manager and remove any referance to the sound card you can find and reboot.Windows will do the rest, just follow the prompts and tell the installer to look in windows if you don't have the driver disc. Then, or instead of, you can go online and get the latest driver from the manufacturers web site.

Code just gets crazy or something else interferred. It's normal operating procedure in Windows.

I recommend always using the manufacturers drivers over any Windows driver. The Windows versions are usually crap.

It's possible that something you installed shared the same resources and took them over but when you removed and reinstalled windows changed the resources to something more compatible.

I agree but they will get you going until you can update with the manufacturers latest driver.
