For people that have strong opinions on both sides of the issue of abortion, I'm curious as to who you are and what makes you "tick", so to speak.

If you wouldn't mind, I'd like this thread to answer a few questions about you.

1) Male/Female
2) How old are you
3) Do you have children or plan on having them
4) If female, do you consider yourself a "feminist"

I am a 40 year old male.

My wife and I have one son and are expecting another child very soon.

I have TWO relatives (that I know of) who have had abortions and have seen what they went through and doubt it would be much worse than actually having the child. The abortions destroyed a part of them.

My wife is the BEST person in the world and I adore her. She stays at home with our kids - something we discuss options on beforehand. We share a LOT of the housework. Even though I leave the house at 6:45 and don't get home until at least 6 p.m., I usually put our son to bed, do laundry, ALWAYS clean the 3 cat litter boxes, prepare my own dinner/lunch for the next day (we eat differently) 75% of the time. I do the dishes after dinner. I do the grocery shopping, change diapers and get up with our son on weekends so my wife can sleep in (even though I am up a 5 a.m. all week).

I am NOT a male chauvenist. I have MORE women friends than I do close male friends - always have.

My wife is a 100% partner in our marriage. I do almost NOTHING without discussing it with her and she does likewise. It is OUR money, not mine. The $26,000 debt for her masters is OUR debt, not hers. We are BEST FRIENDS and do not control each other nor do we desire to in any way.
Whatever makes her happy is what makes me happy (except if it has to do with her mother :gmo: )

What about you?

well ill lay it out there for ya

1. I am a male, no operations performed for it either
2. I am currently 17 years old
3. No, and not really
4. lol no

I gained my pro-choice views from myself. i used to be catholic and converted to atheism, and adopted the idea that everyone should be able to choose what they would like to do without ridicule. however its hard to bring about free choice without negative commentary from the general public in a country that is so single minded that they are not willing to accept major social changes.

so i guess in a sense im a rebel...not a loud obnoxious rebel, but rather a quite behind the scenes slowly changing and converting into what I hope will become a truely socialy free America

with that said, i think abortion is ok until the third trimester which is when when i beleive that the fetus is cnsidered a true human lifeform.

1. Male, says so on the side.
2. Age, I don't really think its relevant.
3. yes
4. N/A

I actually havn't plonked myself firmly down on one side of the argument yet (despite what some people have said). I am here to figure out what I think (I am not arrogant enough to presume I know what is best without being properly informed). I am for a sensible, consistent and logical answer. I am an atheist. I worked that one out for myself as well.

I have personal experience of abortion, when I was a lot younger. It was NOT due to carelessness or promiscuity. It was just an accident. I would gladly pay extra tax to improve the lot of single mothers. I would also like to have the option to disburse my tax according to the priorities I find important. I am Liberatarian in outlook, but true liberatarians would find me quite woeful.

And you didn't even wait half and hour before calling all of us cowards.

edit: Removed unwarranted comment. If anyone read it, I apologize.

Why didn't you let more than 29 minutes go by before calling people cowards?

1. Female
2. 30-something
3. Maybe one day -- need to make a little more money to support a child
4. YES

Interesting that you picked this particular forum to just ask people general questions, but then never actually asked THE question.

Number 4. One does not have to be a woman to be a feminist. Did you know that? In fact, AmericaFirst, from your description of your relationship with your wife, YOU sound like a feminist to me.

Feminists are not only hippie hussies who run around demanding people worship their vaginas. (I know they exist.) Most feminists are simply people who believe in the equality of the sexes and the kind of understanding and communication you and your wife have. It's the same with my husband and myself. He considers himself a feminist too.

It would be nice to have a world without abortions I guess. It would be even nicer to have a world where a medical procedure is discussed and decided upon between an individual and his/her doctor.

Indeed. "Every child a wanted child" has more than one meaning.

4) If female, do you consider yourself a "feminist" Oh, lets stop right there. What a sexist claim. Men certainly can be feminists.

Quote: I am NOT a male chauvenist. I have MORE women friends than I do close male friends - always have. Well you sound relatively feminist at least in your description, so why do you want to exclude men for the option of answering that they are feminists?

This isn't one of my pet topics, but I'm interested because its an important issue, both in terms of women's rights, and in terms of the wider society.

I have had considerable experience with this issue. On a personal level I have not had an abortion, and in circumstances where it would have been the 'sensible' thing to do I chose not to. I have however had considerable contact with women who have, and especially with young women faced with unplanned pregnancies. I have also run education programmes for teenage parents.

I find that emotive arguments are not helpful to the people concerned, and believe it is a choice that should only be influenced by those who are familiar with the circumstances surrounding each individual case.

I also believe that those who wish to force the anti choice line have an obligation to put their money where their mouths are. They should be prepared to provide support and opportunities to young mothers to prevent the continuation of the cycle, and to develop education programmes that focus on the whole individual. This latter would be a preventative strategy not just in relation to unplanned pregnancy, but also to a range of other signifcant lifestyle issues.

I believe that abortion is alright when it comes to saving the life of the mother, or in cases of rape and unwanted incest. Otherwise, I have conservative views on abortion. That doesn't mean I go around and instill my beliefs on others...

3. Don't have any kids, though hopefully will someday. But that's a long way off.

4. I'm all for gender equality; so I guess that would make me a feminist, of sorts.

1) Male
2) 25
3) No children, undecided on whether I want a child
4) And I am a feminist, in the true meaning of the word.

I confuse a lot of people when it comes to my stance on abortion. I have very strong feelings that fall on BOTH sides of the argument.

First, I believe that abortion is moral and justified only in pre-existing medical conditions that would severely threaten the life of the baby and/or mother should the child be carried to term. I find the idea of "ending a pregnanancy" to be reprehensible in all but the aforementioned case.

However, I still believe it should be legal. While I think that no woman should ever choose to have an abortion, I would not deem to take that choice away from her.

It comes down to: "I may not like what you decided to do, but I will defend your right to make the decision."

1 Female

2- 28

3- I have one boy, 7 yrs old

4- Yes I am a feminist.

I have also had two pregnancies, and the first one ended with the destruction of my babys life. There was no chance of changing MY mind, and the "procedure" (the butchering process) leaves little to no doubt that the end result of the process will kill a life.

I am pro life NOW, but was pro choice for 10 years, in defiance and denial to the horrendous act I took part in committing against my baby.

I take nearly 100% of the guilt I should have upon myself for the murder that took place, of my child, but I hold the doctors and clinic staff partially responsible for their outright lies, and their "one choice" attitudes toward abortion and pregnancy, and because of that, I hold alot of resentment as a result towards these very people.

SpellJammer's a male and people consider him a feminist. Infact, even some of his best net-friends didn't think he was a man at all but a lesbian for the longest time.. :P

Egalitarian.

I am Pro-Choice, however contraception/safe sex should be promoted to prevent things reaching such a stage.

I apologize for the "feminist" question - it was uncalled for and I hope you can forgive me for it.

I agree - men can be feminists. I have in-laws who saw their fathers not have to lift a finger inside the house and it never ceases to infuraite me when these people sit at the dining room table and expect the women to cook the meal, serve the meal, remove the dishes and then wash them. They in turn became those men also. If I could, I would like to give them (and all like them) a good dope-slap.

Men and women should be able to do just about ALL things the other gender can do and should be expected to be allowed to with the exception of giving birth as that is impossible. The reason I say "just about" all things is because I have seen cases (in my area) of men being denied the "right" to play certain traditional female sports in High School yet women are allowed to participate in traditionally all-male sports.

If I am not banned from this forum for my opinions, you will find out that I am EXTREMELY opposed to favoritism that now disguises itself as "equal rights". They should not allow a "Womens Political Caucus" as if men ever tried to do that nowadays, it would called sexist and descriminatory - two wrongs don't make a right in my book, no matter what you want to call it.

So yes, I too am a feminist...

I agree with you, America First--

There really should be less of the gender segregation thing... I mean, sure we all have different anatomy- but so what? And the problem is worldwide, for anyone watching the Olympics, that should be obvious.
