For the anti-gay marriage crowd - how much are you willing to personally pay out to make sure gay couples can never have their marriages recognized?
The money is pouring in - big money from just a few donors - in the campaign to define marriage as a heterosexuals only institution in Minnesota.
Ron King, an Eden Prairie-based real estate developer has donated $35,000 to Minnesota for Marriage.
Robert Cummins, president of Plymouth-based Primera, a printing company, gave $90,000 to Minnesota for Marriage and $35,000 to an affiliated group, Minnesota Citizens for Defense of Marriage.
George Anderson, a vice president at Crown Iron Works Corporation in Champlin gave $10,000 last year.
In 2004, supporters and opponents of various gay marriage measures in other states spent $13 million on their efforts. The two groups spent in some cases more than $2 million in a few battleground states, including Oregon, Michigan and Ohio.

Is it worth it? Aren't there other causes that would benefit more from that kind of money being thrown around?
I've said it before and I'll say it again - these are not grass roots campaigns. They're missions of hatred funded by wealthy businessman, the Catholic Church and in at least one state (Florida), the Republican party. |

Maybe they reckon that if the lesbians can't get married, they're just going to have to break down and sleep with 'em.
Other than that, I simply cannot comprehend why someone cares enough about keeping homosexuals from getting married that they're willing to spend their kid's college fund on it, or the price of a new car, or enough money to make a real difference at a real charity.
Hell, they could spend that money on a political campaign that actually affects their life, instead. |

Oh, but wait - there's more!
Committees formed by Focus on the Family spent a total of more than $255,000 in direct or in-kind contributions in seven states in 2004, according to the Institute of Money in State Politics, which examined spending reports.
Apparently they're chiefly 'focused' on the ruination of gay families. |

Nice. (sarcasm)
People donate this kind of money for this - and there are homeless children on the streets.
Priorities. Where are they!?
I could care less who gets married to whom. It's none of my business. Just as if I ever chose to marry again, it's nobody's business.
I cannot comprehend why anyone would care. I really cannot and I don't believe I will ever understand it. |

| My goodness ... can't they just give me that money? I promise to spend it for a good cause (ie: paying off my student debt!!!). |

Not in Minnesota, where twoof Skeptic's examples come from. Oh yes, there are panhandlers. Homeless? No. Damn leeches. People are homeless in this country because of their own actions. Except for one panhandler I saw. Instead of the usual sign written with your left hand that say "Homeless. God Bless," it said "Ninjas killed my family. Need money for kung fu lessons." So ninjas made him homeless.... well not really, he was a liar.
Anyway, it is their money to spend in anyway they see fit. They earned it, they can spend it. While I would not spend money in this fashion, who am I to tell someone else how to use their own money? |

I never said that they couldn't spend their own money how they see fit. I just happen to DISAGREE with them. Big difference.
You might also want to check statistics about how many homeless people actually have some form of mental illness. How many homeless people are United States veterans. :?
Not everyone is homeless because of some voluntary action on their part. To state otherwise, is making a pretty big and sweeping generalization. |

Exactly, homeless people, like any other group of people, are individuals with their own conditions above all. |
