It's a touch screen which supports more than one contact point at once, and detects pressure. Impressive in itself, this video demonstrates some interesting applications it may have.

The combination of an interesting technology and very good programs to demonstrate it is absolutely amazing. Take a good look at the part where he organizes pictures: this will be the desktop of the future.

The part with the photos is awesome. I wonder if this is really the "desktop of the future." I think that 3D desktops certainly are (see: Project Looking Glass). But kiosks have been out for a while, and have yet to penetrate the home market. It'd be interesting to see what happens with it, but I think that it's just going to keep going down the line of the 2d development :?

I don't see how you can operate a 3-d desktop in a convenient manner. sure it'll be great for fps games and such, but for common tasks like spamming and stuff i prefer the flat thing.

Games are already 3D and have been for quite some time. :?

immersive 3d, whichis differnet from 3-d rendered on a 2d plane.

I think you'll see more widgets first. That "desktop" will probably be more of a kioske type thing. But for the immediate future, I think widgets will be the really big thing down the stretch
