Whites are better? Whites are cleaner? What were whites to themselves pre-civil rights?
What was the thinking with respect to separating blacks from whites? What was the justification behind it?
Whats compelling is that a hundred years earlier, whites were having blacks as slaves: cooking their food, washing their clothes.

So, the idea that Whites thought of Blacks as 'dirty' is likely not the reason there was segregation unless there was a shift from 'ok, blacks are dirty lets separate ourselves from them - we cant have them as slaves anyway?
