Just a question I was trying to answer today and couldn't find out:
What exactly is written in the book which offends so badly? I'm reading it atm and so far cannot see where the blasphemy bit comes in...
Also, please don't answer 'it's offensive to us', I'd like to know exactly what part is applicable... |

| Other than it's offensiveness, it seeks to paint Islam in a bad manner. There are many other reasons, including the depiction of characters and fiendish depiction of angels, who are pure at heart. Of course, I can tell you all the reasons, but that will take time. |

Isn't it a bit strange that he had a death threat on his life then? Do you agree that painting a religion in a bad light is good enough reason for this? |

I don't agree with the reaction of the Iranian mullahs. Not one bit, but I don't approve of what Salman Rushdie did and wrote in his books.
It wasn't me who issued this sentence. Ask the mullahs. After all, they rule Iran with an Iron Hand. |

Moath, my point isn't to rubbish you or Islam - far from it, your posts here are a very good and bring a better light to the debates. Unfortuantely I don't have an email address for any Iranian Mullahs, google didn't help me and reading the book isn't helping either (could be something to do with Rushdie's waffing writing style)... |

Why thank you, Ssushi. I knew that.
Well, in Islam, angels and demons are sensitive issues to be depicted in such a lustful way. It was seen as a desecration and thus the man was sentenced. Maybe it is Rushdie's style. |

I only just found out that he apologised and returned to Islam afterwards... |
