Provoking was planned... don't you think?

No, I think all this chaos was bound to happen soon, things have been quite tense between the Western World and the Islamic World. and it seems like these cartoons just provided a good excuse to murder and riot for everything "bad" the western world has done.

I agree. The West gets blamed alot by Muslims for internal problems like corruption or bad leadership. Of course the US has done alot of stupid things and the West isnt totally innocent.

BUT i do not see what justifies Muslim behaviour.

I dont - and nor do my frineds - hate Muslims. I dont give in to predjudice and stereotyping. But it seems like many Muslims do, perhaps its not there fault but... its still true.

I dont hate the west too I dont think, from their posts, the people posting here hate the west too..
We never had a problem with Denmark at all..NEVER.Never blamed them for anything.I understand where you are coming from but also try to understand where we are coming from..

And we agree on that this has taken an ugly turn to violence at some demonstrations..

The cartoons were neither the first nor the last depictions of Mohammed. Complaining, whineing and generally acting like attention seeking brats is not a response that is likely to endear the world to Islam, never mind murdering, firebombing and doom predicting.

What Muslims must recognise is that the cartoons were printed precisely because of the type of reaction it was thought it'd get. In order to show how infantile the reaction would be. The demonstrations are evidence that those who descredit Islam are right.

Thing about stereotypes is, that practically noone is free of them. That's one. Secondly, we have to admit that statistically speaking forum users (not only this one) are among the ones who are comparatively resistant to stereotypes. People who are really biased don't take part in such discussions... for the one simple reason that a discussion with a stereotyped person is close to impossible. Where does that lead us? Imo to a sad conclusion, that our debates are not really representative. Most people follow stereotypes, no matter where they are from. Another sad truth is, that the behaviour of a large crowd is almost always determined by the behaviour of the stupidest unit in that crowd. So, no matter what we say here, the majority is more likely to be convinced by hate-mongering demonstrations (on either side) than by the voice of reason. Yes, i know it's not particularly reassuring and I hope I am wrong, but you can't deny the logic...

That is so very true. I think it is safe to assume that there are no avid suicide bombers on this site... but then again I don't really know because I don't post often.

The thing about the cartoons is that the West is finally taking a firm stand on this case for democratic values. Since the Western world and the Islamic world are both stubborn when it comes to their respective beliefs.. the crisis is escalating. Hopefully it will die down soon. It can only lead to more problems. As a non-muslim person living in the west, I don't think I can ever understand the degree of offense of the cartoons--just like a muslim person in the arab world could ever fully understand the importance of freedom of speech/press (and how fundamentalism has no leverage over democratic rights), the hypocrisy of these extremist reactions and reasons for their violent actions, the level of offense of terrorist attacks etc. (i just had to slip in some more bias)
