| I don't think it is. Look at the Iraqis. I'm gettin a vibe that they don't like democracy to much. |

Democracy is, by definition, the idea that everyone has an equal say and importance of the affairs of state. A literal sense of democracy would be impossible, except for very small countries that had a dedicated voting population. Imagine the US needing to obtain the consent of every eligible voter! It would take FOREVER for anything to get done or solved.
I believe that a democratic republic, which is the form of government in the US, is ideal for any country willing to embrace the better interests of it's people. Leaders that represent the population's better interests should be elected by the population.
However, a sense of democracy is not a cure all for the worlds problems...look at the election of Hamas, supposedly through free elections, and how our "democratic" government is hesitant to recognize them as a legitimate political party or organization despite the way obtained power.
Just because more people are represented does not mean that beliefs will cease to clash, resulting in tragedy and conflict. |

At the moment, no. The world is simply too large fo it to function efficiently.
On a small scale yes. Democracy is far more potent in small doses. If you administer too much, what was once freedom has now become fascism.
You may as well maintain order through authoritarian governement if the outcome will be the same anyway. |
