Though I do support hunting, it is the responsibility of every hunter to protect the public - including pets - from their activities.
The following link is a story about a family in Canada who lost their dog to a Conibear Trap. The trap was set up not far from their property and their dog became ensnared when he went to investigate the bate inside.
Trapped Mitts
Currently, Newfoundland and Labrador have no laws regulating the use or type of trap that can be used near a residence
Below is a petition aimed at pressuring the government of Canada to restrict the type and use of traps near residential areas.

Why do you support Hunting? I'm glad to see you want to protect the public but why not also the wild animals that were happy before stepping in that trap? Why is one life so important and the other not? |

Why do you support Hunting? I'm glad to see you want to protect the public but why not also the wild animals that were happy before stepping in that trap? Why is one life so important and the other not?
Because one is a human and the other is an animal. It's rather distrubing if someone was to equate a beaver's life with that of a human. As for supporting hunting, I personally support it because it's a cheaper way to feed myself and my family, I enjoy it, and it is a necessity. Overgrown rats have been pillaging our fields. There is an infestation of deer that needs to be severly trimmed down. Not to mention, up in these parts -- it's a Constitutional Right to hunt. |

Life is life John, a beaver has the same right to it's life as you do to yours. What gives you the right to go kill it? Enjoy hunting? What's there to enjoy? You like killing things? Is your life so sad that you take enjoyment from destroying the life of another? |

What gives me the right? Well that's a silly question. If they are on my property I will shoot gophers or lay traps or use posionous gases or flood them out and stand back with a hoe waiting to cut them in half (that was itthe most fun, but gas is pretty fun too). They are on my property and as righless things the fact they are on my property makes it right for me to do whatever I wish to them. These things are not people. To hold them at the same level is disturbing. It's an animal. An animal can never contribute anything useful to society outside of it's flesh and hide, since they are amoral unreasoning beasts. |

As long as it wasn't put on the dog owners property I don't have any real problem with it. It is the dog owner's responibiltiy to keep their pets on their own property. Around here if pets get away and harasses a ranchers livestock the dogs get shot. |

ok, lets see if you can follow this, our hunting keeps animals from killing you
ill spell it out
hunter kills animal
other animals know (they got real good noses)
fear of humans develops
animals dont attack humans
you get to eat your tofu in the city and not be attacked by a deer
did you really think the animals fear of humans was innate?
modern humans are easy game, so we have to keep our bluff in |
