| 'Pagan' is a deragatory term no different then '****' or 'kyke'. It was used to insult polytheists who afetr the Roman Empire conversion continued to practice. The word itself is latin for 'countryman' as most polythiests were farmers and what not. Will you change it to 'Polythiest'? |

I like the word Pagan, i use it for myself often. I also consider myself to be polytheist, the title Polytheist/New Age does not represent all Pagans, but Pagan/New Age represents all polytheists.
I can't believe this is the first post in the subforum  |

So it was derogatory two thousand years ago. That doesn't mean that it is still derogatory now-- just as some words can become offensive over time, such as "colored" or "negro", some words lose their offensive sting and become simply labels.

Not all Pagans are polytheists; some are duotheists, pantheists, or completely non-theistic. Therefore, "polytheist" is both incorrect and offensive to people who are not accurately described by it. |

"Christian" started out as a deragatory term too. |

When I requested the subforum, I used the terms that people gave me - and it was clear that some people preferred the term 'pagan' for themselves.
As others have said, take it up with the admins. I'm neutral on a change, as I consider myself a mystic and little more. |

Just because Pagan was once used as a derogatory term, doesn't mean it is now.
I call myself a Pagan, a Wiccan, or a Witch...depending on who I am talking to. |
