Hi all,

I'm planning to visit Israel. I heard that is isn't allowed to take a Bible to the Wailing Wall. It that true?

Not for any reason I can think of.

You are allowed to take it. Just don't proselytize.

Hi Mailech and Duchifas,

Thank you for your quick responses.

I won't proselytize (I never proselytized).

A happy Chanukah!

Just like in Islam, it's not allowed.

No, but I advise against it honestly. The Wailing Wall is where some of the most Religously strict people in Israel gather for prayer. You dont want to get them angry. I wouldnt know all the religious requirments and status quo etc, but just be careful. I've only been there a few times in my life for a little silent prayer.

The only religious requirements are to respect the separation between men and women (men pray on one side, women on the other), and wear some clothing (i.e., don't be naked). Quite easily accomplished, and the risk of inciting anger is no more that at an average falafel stand in Tel Aviv.

I have another question about Judaism. Now, in Islam, it is forbidden to eat pork and drink alcohol. Likewise, it is somewhat forbidden to eat non-Halal meat. However, if you're in a place that does not have Halal meat, you're allowed to eat it as long as you say "In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful" before you take your first bite.
I know you guys have Kosher food and all...
What's Judaism's exact stance on this issue?

Interesting link, Duchifas. Thanks a lot. I see so many parallels between Judaism and Islam that it would be impossible for me to write them all down. Very interesting indeed. :tu:
