This isn't equivalent to saying "I don't like the color of my house, so I'll paint it". A lot of people have cosmetic surgery not just to change the way they look, but because the change can have a dramatic effect upon their self-esteem & mental health.

There are limits to what you can do with make-up and clothing. Helena can correct me if I'm wrong about this, but my understanding is that for someone who is transsexual, it isn't enough to just look like the opposite sex to other people when you're fully clothed. It's important for their mental health that the appearance of their body matches what they feel inside - including the parts they can see for themselves that aren't normally on display to others.

I'm not going to lie and pretend that I understand a lot about transsexuals. That said, I'm not going to sit in judgment of them, either. What they do to their body is ultimately up to them - I don't see any reason why you or I should have a say in it. Actually, it's not a judgment of them but for the anger which Helena took, My opinion is that there needs to be an acceptance of ones self. I have no problems with a person changing sexes. I don't care what they do. Why you still think that I think this way is beyond me. I have worked my entire life with people who have either had or have far more unfortunate situations thrust upon them. In the cae of non retarded adults, they have had no choice but to accept things which cannot be changed. Thinsgs which have caused their daily life to be an immense struggle just to move from one place to another. To deal with horrbile disfigurements. In his/her case, he does have a choice. He can choose to live as a woman and can have the surgery done. It's the anger in which I am responding to, it is not warranted in my opinion. Not when there is the power to make the changes, but simply because it is difficult.

I suggest you go back and re-read Helena's post in it's entirety. The anger isn't about the difficulty of changing one's sex. It's directed at people trying to dictate to transsexuals how they should be allowed to describe themselves and their sexual orientation. She's using the things she's had to go through as a part of the process of transitioning as a justification for having earned the right to describe herself as she pleases.

Now, I suppose we could debate whether those things represent a justification of the right she's claiming, but what exactly would be the point? I think when it comes to sexual orientation, people have the right to choose whatever label they think fits without the need to provide such additional justifications.

Edit: Like she said, you completely missed her point and instead seized on something that was only collaterally related.

Well, this proves one thing via poll..

1 out of 3 people roughly is homosexuals. (As I've always believed.)

And 3 out of 4 people will just sleep with anything that moves.. (As I've always believed.)
