I've heard about this book from a friend of mine, and I'm interested in it. Is there a link for an online Talmud reading? I'd very much appreciate it.
Cheers =) |

I don't think there is an english translation of the Talmud on the net that I know of. IMO, Talmud is something you shouldn't study on your own. |

Thanks. I'll check the library then. I asked this question because I know that another book, the Zohar, is up on the net.
And about that I shouldn't study the Talmud on my own... I know that. The Koran isn't something I study on my own either. :) |

It won't be in a library. Check for a Chabad House near your location, www.chabad.org they will be able to teach you Talmud there, although I don't think you understand how big it is... :-D It's something that takes years and years of study. When I go to Minyan every morning we have a 20-30 minute Talmud class with our Rabbi. I really don't know if they will teach you talmud but if any sect or Orthodox will, Chabad will...

Okay, just make sure you study with someone who knows Talmud, don't study with another friend who doesn't know it either. :)
All the best... |

Mostly because if you don't have the proper background, you will not really understand the whole structure of what is going on and you can very easily misunderstand or misconstrue what it says |

I still wouldn't suggest reading on your own. |

You mean like the part that talks about eating dog turds? I really hope I misunderstood that part. |

| The Talmud is something you shouldnt study on your own, like the Bible, the Torah and the Koran. If you do, it might bring up prejudice and wrong interpretations of the text that you're studying. |

You are right Moath of course. It is funny, I have had Muslim friends, and in many ways Judaism is just as close if not closer to Islam than it is to Christianity, it is just the politics that get in the way. The flip side is that some of the religious aspects have definite political ramifications. Oh well. |

Are you kidding? Christianity promotes highly that you read the Bible for yourself. I honestly think that most of the bad interpretations of the Bible that are floating around come from people believing what other people say about the Bible than from reading it for personally.
God promises that His word will not return void without accomplishing its purpose...reading the Bible can do you nothing but good. |

The Christians accept the Teachings of Jesus; the Muslims accept the Teachings of Jesus; and the Talmud teaches that Jesus is in Hell being boiled alive in hot human excrement.. And you think that Judaism is closer to Islam than Christianity is? Perhaps in linguistics, Hebrew and Arabic both being Semetic languages (Shalom and Salaam and so forth), but I'm not sure that's the case from a philosophical point of view..
Of course, I might be completely offbase in my interpretation of the Talmud above (the bit about Jesus being in Hell).. if I am, please correct me. This is definately one of those cases where I'd prefer to be wrong rather than right. |

"America under the Talmud", as sponsored by United Hebrew Congregation and the British Commonwealth... uuuuhhhhh....
I'm sorry, but the Founding Fathers would be rolling in their graves (as if they aren't already). America was founded on a number of important principles, and the Talmud is not one of them. Moreover, the whole concept of "America under the Talmud" is something of a contradiction in terms, esp in light of our First Amendment guarantees concerning freedom of religious worship.. |

What do you think of Elizabeth Dilling, who is right under that?
Looks like both sides are presented to me. Pro-Talmud and con-Talmud.
Anything wrong with that? |
