Quote: NO NO NO and NO, STOP PUTTING WORDS IN MY MOUTH JOHN!!!!!!!

First of all I don't know all the reasons and ideas behind any of the commandments, no one does but G-d.

Second I explained to you a reason why the priest is thrown into the mix. There is definately a rhyme and reason.

What I did say was how long the HP lives and how long a person is in exile for is for G-d to worry about, not me.

Really? Then what is the rhyme and reason? The High Priest is going to die eventually no matter what. It doesn't add any burdon to the High Priest.

So please explain WHY the High Priest has to die before the person can leave the city?

The burden is his requirement to teach and pray for the people

Well? What does the death of the High Priest have to do with it?

Why wouldn't it just be atoned for on the day of Atonement?

Because certain things require punishment before they can be atoned. The manslaughterer must go into exile for a period of time determined by the death of the HP. Not all sins are atoned for on Yom Kippur. Some require suffering as well, some require death as well.

As to why the High Preist, read the post.

Not really, I know what you are thinking. The death of the HP was not the atonement. it just signalled the end of the term.
