Aso says Japan is nation of 'one race'

Quote: FUKUOKA (Kyodo) Internal Affairs and Communications Minister Taro Aso has called Japan a "one race" nation, an expression similar to a controversial statement in 1986 by then Prime Minister Yasuhiro Nakasone, sources close to the minister said Monday.

In a speech during a ceremony at the new Kyushu National Museum in Dazaifu, Fukuoka Prefecture, on Saturday, the sources said Aso described Japan as having "one nation, one civilization, one language, one culture and one race. There is no other nation (that has such characteristics)."

no it is unbelievable that you and your nazi organization support nations made up of one race. It is unbelievable that there are people that are so intolerant of other races and wish other races to be seperated by states such as in japan so as not to ruin your white supremacist dream. :roll:

Isn't Japan a really racist country in general. Like if your having a meal and your white you can be told to leave and often are told to for no other reason but your skin colour.

yes and no, my cousin teaches english over there (btw if anyone is looking for a VERY high paying job..) and has not found too many problems albeit the culture is very intolerant to others in general. Such a thing tends to happen when nations are comprised of one race.

Japan is still one of the best countries to go too IMO...but Japan is 98% Japanese lol. I'm black and when i go to japan i am one hot item unless i'm in okinawa where there are a lot of Foriegners, but on the main Island its a bit tough; And the glass ceiling is very low job wise for a gaijin unless you have some good skills.

Well, I imagine that Japan has an excuse for being a bit racist. As icering said, they are 98% japanese, and really never had a push for social equality. They don't necessarily believe that they're superior, it's just that they are a society that greatly fears diversion from the norm. They never had the need to evolve past their ancient, xenophobic ways, simply because there was no justification for it. They were caught off guard by diversity.

It'll get better eventually, I'm sure, as the world mixes more and more.

It'll get better eventually, I'm sure, as the world mixes more and more. Somehow , I tend to believe that the leaders of Japan deliberated maintain a pure "Japanese Race" on their islands. It is much easier to mobilize the people for economic purposes, for militaristic purposes when you don't have conflicting cultures to deal with. That was one of the reasons why Japan was successful in the Sino-Japanese wars. A smaller more united nation was able to take on a larger, albeit more ethnically diverse country and win in Wars.

How about Okinawa people, the former LiuQiu people?
They are more close to Chinese however their islands occupied by Japan.

Japan took a bad situation and up-ended it, made it better and now kick ass. Their educational system is very good if not excellent. Their tolerance may be a little iffy in the rural areas, but for the most part, my experience has been very good. I find it funny that they do feel Americans are a bit "grubby" but that's a stigma and most modern Japanese will go out of their way for Gaijin. Yes there are some "No Gaijin" signs, however I've never personally been discriminated against.

Maybe those who are quick to comment can share their experiences in Japan, and how they felt when either visiting there or living there, especially since they have such a strong opinion. First hand experience is the best feedback.
