When history comes to make a final judgment on the Blair government — and we can be forgiven for hoping that moment is not too much longer delayed — there is one key statistic by which to assess the Prime Minister’s performance. Since 1997 the Labour government has created no fewer than 700 new criminal offences. This is supposed to be an age of increasing peace and prosperity. Yet the Labour party has been in such a continuous panic about the behaviour and potential behaviour of the British people that it has found 700 new ways in which to proscribe courses of conduct. In case you are wondering how that compares with any previous administration, Labour is creating criminal offences at a rate ten times greater than that of any other government.

The lead articel in the Spectator.

The next election, I'd guess. The seats are to be redistricted, someone told me, so that the proportion of the vote is better reflected in the number of seats won. This would lead to a swing of 30 seats lab-con, (again I was reliably informed). Therebye automatically cutting the Labour majority to just 9, or 12 when Sinn Fein are removed from parliament.

A small swing to conservatives (I'd guess pretty likely after all this time) would finish them off.

I was sort of joking....I did guess that you really meant that the latter but I thought that 'Horrible and largely unjustifiable' also applied well to Blair.

Criticising another's ideas, if they can be term 'religious' ideas.

I don't know, I think we might be seeing some interesting coalitions coming up in the future, maybe the Lib Dems leading a bunch of smaller parties? Maybe a Conservative coalition with some smaller parties?

Who knows, but I'm sure they'll be a wider mix of parties in parliament in the next election.

What smaller parties do you mean? Only the nationalist parties and the three main ones (plus 'Respect') have any seats...
