Constitutionally, Wales is a principality within the Kingdom of England. Scotland is a seperate kingdom in it's own right within the United Kingdom, and Northern Ireland is the remnant of the Kingdom of Ireland that remains within the Union. Technically speaking, Welshmen are Englishmen in law, much like Cornwall. Though both have a tendency to get a bit upset if you describe them as English....

You should read theakanzafront's sig, more taxes is not a Liberal concept. It's a Traditional Conservative / Socialist one...

I'm a liberal and believe that tax = theft. Yes, that does make me quite extreme, and yes I do believe that theft is wrong.

"Prince" is derived from princeps, "first citizen", which was first used by Octavian when he created the imperial title. So it effectively means an authoritarian ruler. When you start seeing references to principalities (e.g. principatus capuae), the word had undergone something of a shift: the title was translated onto strong leaders of smaller territories than kingdoms (sometimes within them). In Britain, the word changed in meaning again to mean the child of a monarch -- this was primarily down to the conquest of Wales, and prevailing political custom following that event whereby the monarch would crown their first-born the Prince of Wales.
