redneck-A poor white person in the southern or midwestern states.
Do you not see how your term is slightly more perjorative. Just a little? :!oops:
are you kidding me?
go to Kansas and call somebody a redneck and see if they don't take offense to it. You are trying to be inflammatory and demeaning to a group of people when you use that word, AND YOU KNOW IT. Just like I would be doing if I used the word I mentioned.
HAHAHAHA, you forget that I live south of Atlanta, Joe. There are kids here that are proud to be called Rednecks, and take no offence at all. But I'd really like you to show me any gay person that would want you to call them a F****t. And by the way, Joe, a bigot is Quote: A prejudiced person who is intolerant of any opinions differing from his own. Sounds more like you. |

They call themselves redneck like blacks call eachother brother.
Let me guess, it depends on the context and who's using it? |

As a person from Kansas, I do not appreciate being called redneck or ignorant. Can you not use a little intelligence yourself, and start a thread that is not so derogatory? |

Hey, OpenMind, you need either a new name or an attitude adjustment. If MaskedJR, who is in fact from Kansas, doesn't appreciate being called a redneck, then don't justify called him (and several million other people) that based on how your cousin feels about it. That this thread, like so many others, has been so far only about name-calling is no surprise. Although the name of this thread was an incredibly poor choice, perhaps an intelligent discussion could yet stem from it.
I think what has happened to this Limon guy is wrong. Although I have a personal problem with a 14-year-old and an 18-year-old engaging in sex acts, I don't think it should be any different for gays than for straights, because that's a double standard. And beyond that, if they were both living in a group home, then I think it you could argue that it's the state's fault for allowing it to happen. Besides the exact case in question, I think it's not Kansas' business if a couple of teenagers want to have sex or not. Even though this is a non-ordinary situation, the state's business in the matter is to provide proper sex education for kids, not to send them to prison for not being able to control their hormones, after telling them "don't have sex" and not providing proper knowledge on the issue. |

| I am glad to see the law treating people equaly. Afterall, sex with an underaged person is sex with an underaged person, no matter race, creed or sexual orientation. |

How is this thread derogatory? Perhaps his wording was a bit harsh but i'd hardly call the topic of this thread derogatory. it is quite an important step for equality. |

Neither are any of the other words used to degrade someone based on race. Redneck is the white equivalent of ni@@er.
As far as the meat of the topic goes, I'm glad cooler minds have prevailed. This was a good ruling. |

You would probably start a "Socialist Canada" or "Baby Seal Murderin' Canada" thread.
Like I said, the subject is a good one, his wording could have been toned down. |

Strange Joe.....when I used that argument in a similar discussion with regards to "towelheads", I believe your response was something along the lines of "I don't give a s**t what they think, it's not derogatory." So why does it work when you use it?
That's the first example of your hypocrisy.
The second is you start several threads about gays, then when a similar one is opened but with an opposing view to yours, it is all of a sudden irrelevant.
Why are you so perpetually full of s**t Joe? |

I wouldn't go so far as to call Kansas "redneck", but it certainly personifies the dumbing down of America...
From "What's the Matter with Kansas" by Thomas Frank:
Not long ago, Kansas would have responded to the current situation by making the bastards pay. This would have been a political certainty, as predictable as what happens when you touch a match to a puddle of gasoline. When business screwed the farmers and the workers - when it implemented monopoly strategies invasive beyond the Populists' furthest imaginings -- when it ripped off shareholders and casually tossed thousands out of work -- you could be damned sure about what would follow.
Not these days. Out here the gravity of discontent pulls in only one direction: to the right, to the right, further to the right. Strip today's Kansans of their job security, and they head out to become registered Republicans. Push them off their land, and next thing you know they're protesting in front of abortion clinics. Squander their life savings on manicures for the CEO, and there's a good chance they'll join the John Birch Society. But ask them about the remedies their ancestors proposed (unions, antitrust, public ownership), and you might as well be referring to the days when knighthood was in flower.

As a Kansan, I find your post to be quite inflammatory and not worth the bandwidth that it is using.
Nothing like generalizing an entire state of people and assuming that they are all "poor white people" and that we all are bigots.
Your excuse and/or skewed reasoning that "When rightwingers stop generalizing CA, NY and Boston.. then you'll stop........." is what I would expect to hear from someone in grade school.
Not an adult. |
