"In short, the tribunal said that no matter how fraudulent a Zimbabwean's asylum seekers' claim to be, they cannot be returned because the very act of seeking refuge in Britain marks them out for possible abuse from the authorities on return.
In the worst possible scenario for policy makers, this could mean that literally anybody could arrive from Zimbabwe, falsely claim asylum, fail, and then sit happily knowing they will not be returned while President Robert Mugabe is in power. "
Just who is making these fecking decisions???
There's helping people out and there's fecking the very country you live and pay into!!! |

Of course this was the case for a very long time, then the government decided to reverse its policy and for some reason say it was save to force people to return to Zimbabwe.
There was no change in the number of people claiming asylum during any of these changes and I'm betting that there won't be now.
However it does make me wonder why the government doesn't introduce a new crime of fraudulently claiming asylum so then at least these idiots can be kept in jail until someone finds oil in Zimbabwe and then suddenly we decide to go something about the murdering bastard.
What also made me laugh about this case was that on the BBC they interviewed an asylum seeker from some African country who was put in a holding center in Britain upon here arrival here. She described the conditions as horrific, makes me wonder what she was running from. Whatever it was can't have been that bad if she thinks a British jail is that bad. |

For christ sake, why don't we do something about Zimbabwe? We're the 4th richest country in the world and one of the few priviledged (or lumbered with depending on your opinion) to have a state-of-the-art professional army. Rather than letting it sit on its arse all day lets do something with it.
It's not like we need to go in Americanesque style and blow the s**t out of the place. We just need to kill Mugabe and his cabinet, there are more than enough pro-democracy groups in Zimbabwe to lay the road for its recovery, and I doubt we'd do it alone. South Africa doesn't exactly like having a totalitatian dictatorship sending refugees over its border... And I'm sure there's a few ANZAC enthusiasts... |

Not very imaginative are we? Hercules, Chinnocks? For a history student I'm surprised you've never heard of The Malayan Emergency the only war won by a western power against guerrila warfare?
Besides, there is plenty of nations willing to let us use their airspace to fly in. |
