Quote: Clarke knocked out of Tory race
Ex-chancellor Ken Clarke has been knocked out of the race to become the next leader of the Conservative Party.
The self-styled "big beast" came fourth in the poll of Tory MPs, gaining 38 of the 198 available votes.
Of his rivals, David Davis came top with 62 votes, followed by David Cameron on 56 and Liam Fox on 42.
The three remaining candidates go through to another vote by Tory MPs on Thursday. That will select the two who go to a ballot of all party members.

Interesting result - although many were expecting Clarke to loose
David Davis lost a few MPs who had "declared" for him, and Liam Fox gained a lot more than he was expcting, but the story here is surely David Cameron, who gained a massive 56 votes.
I'll continue to support Liam Fox until thursday, where unless the Davis vote collapses he will probably be eliminated. Then it will be Davis v Cameron, and i'll have to make my mind up all over again........ |

Yes, I am disappointed, but not surprised. After the conference, Clarke unfortunately failed to pick up momentum, as is his eternal fault he fails to connect with those who matter to get him through the preliminaries.
But history moves on.
I have no choice, now but to support David Cameron.
David Davis' campaign has been nasty and uninspiring and Dr Fox, bless him, simply isn't the man.
Vote Cameron |

Ken Clarke was going to be eliminated from the start. He himself said that he was too old to be the leader -- he'll be nearly 70 when the next election comes around.
David Cameron is going to win the election. The party activists never go with the candidate the MPs want. |

Sure he'll be against Blair befire the election but they need someone who can beat Gordon Brown in the 2009 General Election. David Cameron is the only person the Tory Party has with a chance against the Iron Chancellor. |

Can you see the labels in the avatar block?
I think a 'fake account' is an account created at the same IP address as another account, though i may be wrong. |
