I know this is not a religious question but i just find it and i would like your comments...

"I think the strongest anti-Semitism sometimes exists among Jews. To this day a German Jew often hates Russian or Polish Jews. There are German-Jewish clubs around this country that did not allow Russian or Polish Jews when they first started. Some have relented a little, but not all. I'm sure that when Hitler started, many German Jews didn't mind what he did to other Jews. They didn't expect him to turn on them. Isn't it ridiculous? But if anti-Semitism can exist among Jews, why shouldn't it exist among others?"
--- actor Kirk Douglas (neй Issur Danielovitch, son of Russian-Jewish immigrants), The Ragman's Son - An Autobiography, p. 23 (Pocket Books: New York, 1989)

It is true. There is plenty of self-hate among the Jews -- Chomsky would be a good example. Although I wouldn't go anywhere near as far as to say that German Jews "didn't mind" what Hitler did to other Jews. That IS ridiculous.

I am not a Russian Jew, I am a simple Jew. Russia (well, Lithuania to be more precise) happened to be the place I was born, no more than that.

Kirk Douglas generalized a whole lot. Jews have all kinds of thoughts and ideas and feelings. I am sure that some German Jews didn't particularly like Russian Jews. I wouldn't say that it was a prevalent feeling.

For example, it is abundantly clear that some Israeli Jews plainly hate the idea of Judaism or the concept of a Jew. But to say that Israeli Jews don't like Jews? That's pretty ridiculous.

To give another example, there are plenty of Americans that hate America and what it stands for, even if they try to hide it under other rhetoric. Michael Moore and his fellows, for example. There is nothing more that pisses them off than ideals that America really stands for. They pretty much can't stand Republicans. Does that mean that Americans hate Americans in general? Eh, that's pretty ridiculous.

Ok, so Jews have similar problems too. Maybe some German Jews didn't like Eastern Jews. And maybe a few of them said somethign nasty here and there. It happens.

I don't think this is a norm and I definetly don't think they were apathetic when Hitler started killing Jews. I sort of agree with what Duchifas said. Although in my opinion, a jew is a jew. When one struggles, we all struggle.
