Im reading news reports that David Davis's campaign is faltering. Reports are saying that his speech received only a lukewarm reception?
What happened? |

| To be fair he's not really a speeches man, but also compared to the other candidates he just hasn't offered the kind of new ideas and changes many Tories are finally starting to realise they need. As one of the Tory delegates they asked about it said on Newsnight "He's William Hague with hair.". |

| He's just a bit boring to listen to that's the problem. HE also didn't have many knew ideas. His is the only one of the speeches I've seen so I cant compare but I wasn't impressed with him. |

Davis is to grey.
I think the Tories will develop the "New Labour" blueprint. Pick a "youthfull" leader, and re-invent themselves. So the choice at the next election will be New Labour or New Conservative. And that idea makes me want to reach for the barf bag.
Right of centre is going to get pretty crowded. And the choice we are presented with is getting less. Why dont they just merge and have done with it! |

Because then Blair wouldn't have anyones policies to say wouldn't work for 5 months before stealing them. |

| Remember when it was though Boris Johnson would be the next Torrie leader. I really wish it was. I love that guy. He's pretty youthful. I think he would probably have done allot better in the last election even without changing any policies. I would bet allot of people would vote for him just because he is funny. They wouldn't care what his policies were. I would love him to be leader. |

His was the only speech of the main leadership contenders that I missed, so I can't really comment with reference to the speech itself. However my problem with DD is that he appears to have taken his support for granted thus far.
While Ken Clarke has concentrated on the strength of his personality, David Cameron has concentrated on policies, Malcolm Rifkind has concentrated on being a moderniser, and Liam Fox has concentrated on winning the right's support (I use myself as a measure of his success) - DD has not concentrated on any one thing, and his "jack of all trades" style approach which paid off greatly earlier is now backfiring. |
