The problem with your whole 'nationalism is good to bring people together' idea, is that it is totally superficial. After England crash out of the football world cup or even if they win...then what? I have nothing in common with the next England football fan apart from that team. I certainly have nothing in common with the legions of Chavs who plague our city centres.
The fact remains that we all have more in common with like minded people across the world rather than a person who by accident of birth has the same passport as you. |

| I think that there should not be any limits to countrys, nationalism may be a good thing in most aspects but it stops us from joing the rest of the world. |

Quote: That is simple, we have an unwritten social contract along the lines promoted by Locke and others. We agree to respect each other's liberty, pay taxes, conform to the norms and values of the day and in return the state provides order and public services. We don't need a national awareness to do that just a civic conscience.
Bloody well said!

Well I don't think a world government necessarily has to be a bad thing, not at all. But one thing at a time. The trend at the moment is for regional blocks - the EU, ASEAN, African Union, NAFTA, Arab League,Mercator etc, but perhaps two or more of these blocks will seek to merge together and from there we shall see. However we'll all be long dead by then.
It is probably true that it would take the discovery of extra terrestrials to unite the world. |
