| Duchifas, why do we open the door on Pesach for him? I know that we do it, just never really knew the reason. |

| Because it's prophesied that he will return before the day of the Lord. That he will herald of the Messianic era....the 1000 year reign of Christ. |

John, must you preach Jesus in every thread in the Judaism forum?
Do you even know what an Orthodox Passover consists of? Do you even know what we do for Shabbat? Please stop lecturing in every thread of the Judaism forum about Christ. When I visit the Christianity forum, I don't sit there and go thread to thread, telling you what you should believe and the reasons for it. |

Just to clarify, I know the idea is that Elijah visits us which is why we set an extra place at the table and open the door, I'm just curious where this tradition comes from? |

| With all due respect,John,you should stop doing this.Why dont you leave the Jews in peace?We are living in the 21st century.There is no need for prechers anymore.If they want to find Jesus there are books they could read.By coming here all the times you provoke them.And they have every right,then,to come to the Christian forum and start telling us thae we are wrong(like you telling them that they are wrong).And then we start to fight,somoene get suspented etc,etc.Why can you let this forum just for them?I mean is THEIR forum if you think of it... |

They DO have every right to come to the Christian forum and tell us we are wrong.
And if you haven't caught on yet. I didn't mention Jesus in particular at all.....
I gave an explanation of the traditions behind Elijah’s return. It has to do with the Messiah / Christ. The Messiah IS a Jewish belief. |

One reason I just heard was that after the tremendous miracle on Mount Carmel, there is a big revival of Judaism that last for a day. Then they go back to Baal worship. At which point Elijah gets despondant and says that all is lost. G-d says back not so there is still a remnant that worship Me and so he fires Eliyahu and hires Elisha.
Then to show Eliyahu that there is a will always be those that follow Hashem he is there at every seder and at every bris. |
