Have you read the stories about the significance of it during the 6-day war?

On a side note, do you think it's better to give Tzedaka daily or weekly? I'm not really sure on this. As of now, I give once a week.

Tefillin.

I've read that it's better to give more often. Even though amount may be the same, giving more often sensitizes (???) you more. That's wasn't a very eloquent way of saying it. Anyway, an important aspect of Judaism is to constantly work on yourself and improve yourself. Constant action, rather than haphazard achieves that better. To use a stupid analogy, it is like bodybuiling, except you are buildign up your moral muscle, so to speak. And working on it constantly does that better than every now and then. So I would say daily is better.

It's very hard to explain, but I will try. They are black leather boxes containing scrolls of the sacred parchiment. The black leather box contains a hand-written copy of the Shema which I typed out above. The idea behind it is every day you connect your mind, heart, and hand in sync with G-d, so when you go out every day your actions can go hand-in-hand with harmony.

Anyways, there are two pieces to it. One the "shel yad" and the other, "shel rosh". They look like they are made from wood, but infact are made from kosher dead animal skins.

Okay, bsaically in a abbreivated way, Jews put the Yad on their weaker arm level to the heart, on the bare skin, not on top of clothing. You then wrap it around the arm seven times and then the middle finger 3 times to signify the ring. So it looks like this:

The other piece should already be in place on your head. So it looks like this:

It's done every day except for Shabbat and High Holidays.
