Venezuela Says Robertson Call to Kill Chavez Criminal

Aug. 23 (Bloomberg) -- Venezuela's vice president reacted with outrage to a call by television evangelist Pat Robertson for the U.S. to assassinate President Hugo Chavez, and two U.S. senators called the remarks ``irresponsible'' and ``incredibly stupid.''

``It's the height of hypocrisy for the U.S. to continue talking about the war against terrorism when at the same time you have someone making obvious terrorist declarations in the heart of the country,'' Vice President Jose Vicente Rangel said at a news conference in Caracas.

Robertson, a former U.S. presidential candidate who claims 1 million viewers a day for his ``700 Club'' program,'' said on the show yesterday that Chavez is a ``dangerous enemy'' and that the U.S. should ``take him out.'' He said killing Chavez would be cheaper than going to war with Venezuela to remove him.

Pat Robertson: hypocrite! I guess Pat missed the commandment: thou shalt not kill. Not very Christ-like, Pat, you should be ashamed of yourself.

All good Christians, should be outraged at this blatant perversion of Christ's teachings.

Yeah, murdering other country's leaders is a great idea. There is a reason this is against the law, and we learned that the hard way.

If Pat Robertson had been a Muslim Cleric calling for Iran's Government to Shoot Bush or Blair the Neo-cons on this sight would have been screaming for his head.

I know, too bad this is not in the politics section, that gets the most traffic.

Edit. A thread about this is here: http://www.politicalcrossfire.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=35492&start=0

These comments are a godsend really, once again Venezuela is brought to the public light and the neo-cons have embarassed themselves. More people will see what is going on and realise that humanity is in danger.

Sadly the American media doesn't work that way. Right now they smell blood in the water and they'll attack him personally and professionally.(which this dumb ass definitely deserves) In the meantime no one will probably ever mention Venezuela again.

Doesn't really matter, unless one considers...if Chavez alone refused to sell the US oil. It' cost you $10 per gallon or more. And you'd end up waiting in lines that are two miles long...for a rationed amount of 8 gallons.

get a hold of the documentary "the revolution will not be televised" aka "inside the coup"

basicaly he's shaken up the oil company and made it a state owned company. He's instored laws to redistribute the land by puting the rich land-owners land in the hands of the poor. Since Venezuela was effectively invaded by people with huge wealth from other countries so that a minority of the population owned most of the land, meanwhile no help or credit was given to the farmers. Now that clique which owned most of the media and the oil company lost their power through the tyranic governments when Chavez came to power and ever since the CIA have been apparently trying to get him out. Obviously the board of directious previously had links to the US, and now that has changed.

While it would be hypocritical for the U.S. to attempt to kill Hugo Chavez, what Venezuela seems to fail to understand that while well known, Pat Robertson's legal status in this country is the same as everyone else's. Being a private citizen, his statements have no official force, but he is granted a legal right to say it. The U.S. can take no action against Robertson, just as they can't take action against Chavez without becoming hypocritical. By commenting against it, they reinforce the non-assassination policy previously instated. By taking no action against Robertson, the U.S. shows why there is opposition to the rule of Chavez to begin with.

I think Venezuela would be within its rights to dispatch covert operatives to snatch Roberston on US soil and rreturn him to Venezuela to stand trial.

How stupid, he is supposed to be a Christian. But, I shouldn't be surprised, he's a bit of a right-wing extremist.
